The Knape and Vogt 8450 series is a 22 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide with Force Management soft-close damping, rated 100 lb per pair. It arrives in a bulk-pack format, sized for cabinet shops running multiple drawers at a time.
Soft-close damping earns its keep most in rooms where drawers are opened and closed dozens of times a day. The 8450FM's integrated damper module catches the drawer in the last inch of travel and brings it to a controlled stop, eliminating the noise and wear of hard closes. At 22 inches, this slide pairs well with standard kitchen base cabinet drawers and deeper bath vanity drawers where the full drawer length needs to open clear of the cabinet. The 100 lb per pair rating covers a loaded pots-and-pans drawer or a vanity drawer stacked with products without pushing the slide's working capacity.
The zinc finish on the steel members provides standard indoor corrosion resistance and keeps the slide serviceable through years of daily cycling. Zinc is the working standard for side-mount ball bearing slides in this class: functional, durable, and unobtrusive beside the open drawer. The slide is not intended for wet, outdoor, or high-humidity environments where a stainless or coated alternative would be the right choice. For interior cabinet and millwork applications, the zinc finish is the right call.
The 8450FM bulk-pack is the format for a cabinet shop or contractor who needs to outfit multiple drawers in one order without opening individual retail packs. The non-handed design means a single SKU covers every drawer position in the cabinet, which simplifies receiving and cuts shop floor sorting time. Homeowners and designers specifying a kitchen remodel will find this slide at the intersection of everyday reliability and soft-close refinement, without stepping up to a premium undermount system. In face-frame cabinets, rear mounting brackets are required to support the back of the slide; those brackets are series-specific and sold separately.
True soft-close. The 8450FM uses Knape and Vogt's Force Management damping — a dampening cylinder with balanced spring technology — not an undamped closing ramp. The drawer decelerates smoothly over the last portion of travel and settles shut quietly.
The bulk-pack contains slides sold as pairs. Confirm the pack quantity at checkout, as bulk-pack cartons contain multiple pairs for production use.
Slide length is the closed length of the hardware — 22 inches in this case. Because this is a full-extension slide, the drawer travels approximately the full slide length, bringing the entire drawer out to the cabinet face. The two numbers are close but not identical; slide length sets the size you order, not the travel distance.
Yes, but face-frame cabinets need rear support at the back of the slide. Add the matching KV rear mounting brackets — fixed or floating — to complete the installation. Those brackets are sold separately and are series-specific to the 8450FM.
The Force Management damper is factory-set and does not require field adjustment on installation. Mount the slide at the correct height and clearance and the soft-close engages automatically on every close cycle.
When a kitchen or bath remodel calls for soft-close performance at scale, the 8450FM bulk-pack delivers the damped close, full extension, and 100 lb capacity in a zinc finish that holds up through years of daily use — one straightforward slide that does its job without fuss.
