Amerock Thoreau backplate is a decorative backplate from the Amerock Thoreau Series designed for use in decorative hardware and moldings work. The piece measures 1-9/16 inches long by 1-9/16 inches wide, so it lays out as a compact square under standard cabinet hardware footprints. The matte black finish defines the visual edge of the backplate, which lets it frame a knob or pull base on doors or drawer fronts in a consistent dark tone. As part of the Amerock Thoreau Series and Backplates, Amerock product class, this backplate supports coordinated hardware layouts on cabinetry jobs that call for a unified series look.
The 1-9/16 inch by 1-9/16 inch size sets a square layout that can work in tight face-frame or panel sections where larger plates might crowd neighboring details. The matte black finish reads as a single dark field behind the hardware, which can reduce visual noise around the knob or pull base. As a decorative hardware and moldings backplate, it is positioned for cabinet and furniture applications where a defined base plate helps organize the look of the hardware installation.
This Amerock Thoreau Series backplate is identified in the decorative hardware and moldings category, placing it in cabinet and woodworking environments where visible hardware is part of the overall design. The square 1-9/16 inch by 1-9/16 inch footprint suits door and drawer fronts that can benefit from a clear visual pad behind the knob or pull base, especially on flat panel faces. As a backplate in the Amerock product class of Backplates, Amerock, it functions as the design layer between the cabinet surface and the hardware, which lets installers define a precise visual area for each pull point. The matte black finish ties the piece to hardware layouts that use dark tones as a design element across the run of cabinetry.
The equal 1-9/16 inch length and width mean the backplate is square, so orientation on the door or drawer face does not change the visual proportions, which simplifies layout decisions across multiple cabinets. That square plan also helps repeat a centered, predictable reveal around a knob or pull base, which can reduce layout variation over long banks of doors. The matte black finish provides a uniform appearance from plate to plate, which helps installers maintain a continuous look when using several backplates in the same Thoreau Series project.
