Hardwood face frames demand a different screw than plywood carcass work. Dense species like hard maple and red oak resist coarse threads, respond badly to wedging head profiles, and split at the stile if the entry geometry is wrong. This screw is sized and threaded specifically for those conditions. At 1-1/4 inches, it drives through a standard 3/4-inch pocket-hole bore and pulls the rail or stile tight against the mating piece without over-penetrating. The fine thread grips the hardwood fiber matrix rather than spreading it, and the washer head bears flat against the pocket floor to clamp the joint evenly. The same geometry works when attaching a finished face frame to the cabinet box: the washer head distributes the load and the fine thread holds without stripping in the narrow stile.
Fine thread is the correct specification for hardwood joinery. It produces more thread engagement per inch of embedment than coarse thread, which matters in hard maple or hickory where the wood pushes back.
