Grass America TEC 861 108° Face Frame Hinge Self-Closing 7/16" Overlay Nickel Dowel Mount 04616-16

Grass TEC 861 Hinge For Concealed Face Frames

Grass TEC 861 hinge from Grass America is a one piece face frame hinge that keeps cabinet hardware concealed while controlling door movement. This hinge is categorized as a concealed cabinet hinge, so it mounts inside the cabinet and keeps the hinge mechanism out of sight when the door is closed, which helps deliver a clean cabinet front for finished installations. The hinge offers a 7/16 inch overlay on face frame cabinets, letting doors cover the frame edge for a more continuous appearance across door runs. With a 108 degree opening angle, the hinge allows doors to swing open widely enough for everyday cabinet access while still managing door travel in tight runs or small rooms. Being made by Grass America and described as economy priced, the TEC 861 gives project teams a cost-conscious way to standardize on a single, proven hinge style across multiple cabinet runs.

Key TEC 861 Details That Support Cabinet Jobs

• The Grass TEC 861 is described as an economy priced one piece face frame hinge, which simplifies planning for production or multi-room work where consistent hinge style and cost control both matter to installers and shop managers.
• All metal construction is stated to exceed industry standards for weight and closing cycles, so the hinge is built to handle repeated opening and closing in normal cabinet use without relying on plastic structural parts.
• The hinge is Made in USA, giving shops and installers a clearly identified origin that can align with project requirements or customer preference when domestic hardware sourcing is part of the job spec.
• The hinge provides a 7/16 inch overlay for face frame cabinets, which sets how far the door covers the frame and helps keep reveal lines consistent across doors mounted on the same run.
• The Grass TEC 861 has a 108 degree opening angle, giving doors a wide, controlled swing that supports easy cabinet access while helping installers anticipate door clearance against walls, appliances, or adjacent cabinets.

Face Frame Mounting And Door Preparation Details

The Grass TEC 861 uses a face frame mounting plate with locating tabs, so the hinge can register against the frame for easier alignment during installation. Drilling distance for all overlays is specified as 2.5 mm, or 3/32 inch, from the door edge, which provides a clear boring reference for door preparation on CNC or line boring equipment. The hinge uses a shallow cup depth of 10.5 mm, listed as 13/32 inch, allowing cup boring into doors where deeper profiles or thinner sections could otherwise limit hinge options. For door mounting, the hinge cup is attached to the door using #6 x 5/8 inch flat head screws, which sets a defined screw type and length for the door side. For the frame side, the face frame is mounted using #8 x 3/4 inch pan head screws, giving installers specific screw dimensions for production or field work.

How This TEC 861 Hinge Supports Cabinet Work

Where The Grass TEC 861 Hinge Is Used

The Grass TEC 861 hinge is classified as a concealed face frame hinge, so it is intended for face frame cabinet construction where hinges sit inside the case. Its one piece design simplifies hinge selection because the hinge and mounting plate are combined, which suits cabinet runs where installers want to avoid mixing separate plates and arms. The hinge is noted as a concealed cabinet hinge, meaning it fits projects where visible surface hinges are not desired and a cleaner door-to-frame junction is preferred. Door thickness coverage is specified from 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch, so the hinge matches common cabinet door stock used in many shops. This range lets teams standardize boring patterns across lightweight doors and standard solid or panel doors within those thicknesses.

The hinge uses a shallow cup depth of 10.5 mm, indicated as 13/32 inch, which is helpful when doors have profiled edges or reduced material at the hinge location. That shallow bore lets fabricators maintain adequate material behind the cup, which is important for long-term holding strength in normal cabinet use. With a 7/16 inch overlay, the hinge positions doors to cover more of the face frame, which is often used on cabinets where a bolder overlay look is part of the design. The 108 degree opening angle offers a door swing that is wide enough for interior access without pushing into an extreme opening, which can be useful where cabinets are set close to walls or other obstacles.

Details That Help Fit, Adjustment, And Repeatability

The TEC 861 hinge uses a face frame mounting plate with locating tabs, giving installers physical reference points when setting the hinge on the frame. Those tabs help seat the hinge consistently on the frame edge, which supports straighter reveals and reduces time spent fine-tuning door positions. Drilling distance for all overlays is specified as 2.5 mm, or 3/32 inch, from the door edge, providing a single boring offset that can be programmed into equipment or jigs so doors across a run share the same cup position. This consistent boring distance is especially useful when multiple overlays are handled within the same hinge family.

Side adjustment on this hinge can be achieved using a 1/16 inch spacer, as stated, so lateral door position can be shifted by adding a thin spacer in the mounting stack. That adjustment approach gives installers a simple, repeatable way to correct minor reveal differences from cabinet to cabinet. The all metal construction, described as exceeding industry standards for weight and closing cycles, supports repeated adjustments and normal door operation without depending on plastic hinge arms. With clearly specified screws - #8 x 3/4 inch pan head for the face frame and #6 x 5/8 inch flat head for the hinge cup - the hardware interfaces are defined, which aids in setting up production bins or field install kits. The part is identified by manufacturer part number 04616-16 and SAP description 861VS8 (35) SIDE MNT 7/16 OL DOWEL, giving shops precise identifiers when reordering for matching future work.
