The Knape and Vogt 6500 Series is an 18 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing file drawer slide rated 125 lb per pair, built for the load demands of office file drawers, lateral files, and heavy storage applications that push past what standard cabinet slides are designed to handle.
A standard 100 lb kitchen drawer slide is the right tool for most cabinetry, but a file drawer loaded with folders, binders, or hanging files can push well past that threshold. The 6500 Series sits at 125 lb per pair, which covers a lateral file drawer at working capacity without leaving the buyer wondering whether the slide is undersized for the job. Full extension means the rearmost content is reachable without digging — a practical necessity in any file or archive drawer used daily. This is a standard-motion slide: no soft-close, no detent, no spring assist. The drawer rides on the bearings and stays where it is left.
The members are cold-formed steel with a zinc finish — the standard indoor corrosion-resistant finish for side-mount ball bearing slides. Zinc is a functional, durable coating for hardware that sits beside the drawer box; it is not a decorative finish. These slides are built for indoor office and cabinet environments. The ball bearings run in formed steel raceways for the full slide length, which is what delivers the even, wobble-free travel that keeps a loaded drawer tracking straight cycle after cycle.
Cabinet shops outfitting office furniture, built-ins with file pullouts, and lateral file pedestals will find this slide a reliable step up from a standard kitchen class product. Contractors installing office cabinetry in bulk will appreciate the Bulk-Pack format, which cuts down on packaging waste and speeds receiving when a project calls for a significant quantity of file-rated slides. The 18 inch length is a common match for file drawer boxes in the 16 to 18 inch depth range; confirm the interior cabinet depth before specifying to ensure the slide clears the rear of the cabinet. In face-frame cabinet construction, rear mounting brackets are required to support the back end of the slide — these are sold separately and are series-specific.
Yes. The 125 lb per pair rating puts it in the right class for a lateral file drawer under normal working load. It is rated above the standard cabinet class specifically to address applications like this one.
No. 18 inches is the closed slide length, not the travel distance. Full extension means the drawer member extends approximately the full slide length, bringing the entire drawer out past the cabinet face — those are two different measurements.
No. This is a standard-motion slide with no self-close, soft-close, or hold-in detent. The drawer stays wherever it is pushed.
No. The 6500 Series is non-handed — both slides in a pair are identical and fit either side of the drawer.
Bulk-Pack is a quantity trade packaging format — slides are packed loose in a carton rather than in retail polybags. It is the practical format for shops and contractors ordering multiple pairs for a project.
When the drawer carries more than a kitchen cabinet ever would, the 6500 Series keeps the job moving — 125 lb of rated capacity, full extension, and a non-handed format that simplifies ordering and installation on multi-drawer office and storage builds.
