The Sugatsune H160-34/18 is a free-swinging concealed hinge built for thick cabinet doors up to 1-9/16 inches, carrying 3/4-inch overlay geometry on both face-frame and frameless cabinets. The Satin Chrome finish makes it the right call when the hardware will be seen.
Standard concealed hinges are designed for doors in the 16 to 22mm range. When a door is built up, solid-slab, or otherwise heavier and thicker than that window, a standard cup will not seat correctly and the arm geometry does not account for the added mass at the edge. The H160 addresses both issues: its 40mm cup is sized for thick-door bores, and the arm is engineered for the 3/4-inch overlay position at a 90-degree opening on a door up to 1-9/16 inches thick.
A separate base plate is required and sold separately. Match a Sugatsune plate to your cabinet construction and the overlay position. Because plates are brand and series specific, plates from other brands will not connect to this hinge.
The hinge body is steel finished in Satin Chrome, a cooler, brushed-metal tone that reads as a deliberate finish choice rather than background hardware. On thick-door cabinetry where the door edge and hinge are more visible than on a standard frameless box, the finish registers. It coordinates with Satin Chrome pulls, knobs, and other cabinet hardware running through the same project.
This is the hinge for cabinet builders and installers working with thick-door fronts on face-frame or frameless boxes, where the door falls outside the standard thickness window and standard concealed hardware will not fit. The free-swinging motion suits push-to-open setups, display cabinets, or any application where the door should stay at whatever position it is placed. It is not a soft-close or self-close hinge. For a project that needs a damped or spring-pull close on a thick door, a different model in this series covers that application. The 90-degree opening is the correct geometry for this hinge type and door thickness, not a constraint.
No. This hinge mounts to a separate base plate that is sold independently. Select a Sugatsune plate matched to your cabinet type and overlay. Plates from other brands are not compatible with this hinge.
The 40mm cup is part of the thick-door design. Standard 35mm cups are sized for doors in the 16 to 22mm range. The larger cup and 48mm boring pattern are engineered to seat correctly in a thick door and carry the additional weight at the door edge.
Free-swinging means there is no spring or damper in the hinge. The door stays wherever you place it and will not pull shut on its own. If the application needs the door to close automatically, a self-close or soft-close version of this hinge is the right choice instead.
Yes. It is rated for both cabinet types. The plate you pair it with determines the mounting approach for your specific box construction.
When the door is too thick for standard hardware and the finish needs to coordinate with visible Satin Chrome throughout the space, the H160-34/18 covers both requirements in one part.
