Most island columns in this catalog are 36 inches tall, which is the standard counter height. This one is 42 inches, which is the raised-bar dimension. That difference is the first buying decision here. A bar-height island or a raised eating ledge built to 42 inches needs a column that runs its full vertical face, and a 36 inch piece leaves a visible gap or requires an awkward filler above it. The chamfered bar profile reinforces the raised application: the clipped corners and vertical bar character sit naturally on a bar panel in a way that a turned or fully rounded column would not.
