This Kent Design 116 1/4P panel is a decorative metal grille for cabinet door frames, furniture openings, and architectural inserts where an open patterned face is wanted in a warm, antiqued tone.
The opening here is four times wider than it is tall: 1 inch across, 1/4 inch high. At that ratio the panel does not read as a grid the way a square mesh does. Instead it reads as a series of horizontal bands with a thin wire line between them, and the eye follows those bands across the face of the door. Rotate the panel ninety degrees and the same logic applies in the vertical direction, so the orientation is a genuine design decision before installation. That directional quality sets this pattern apart from the even, neutral grids in the same product range.
Square wire differs from round in one important way: it has flat faces rather than a curved crown. On a round wire, light lands on the top of the curve and falls off the sides. On a square wire, light sits flat on the face of the wire and drops sharply at the corners, producing a more defined shadow line at each intersection. In Antique Brass, that crispness works in the finish's favor. The antiquing treatment darkens the recesses and leaves the wire faces lighter, and the flat square section gives the finish a clean, even surface to show that contrast. The result is a grille that carries more visual weight than a round-wire panel at the same mesh size, which suits heavier door styles and furniture with strong lines.
This grille is a natural fit for traditional, transitional, and Arts and Crafts cabinetry where warm metal tones are already part of the hardware palette. A built-in bookcase with glazed or grille upper doors, a pantry cabinet with an open-faced insert, a media enclosure, or a radiator cover are all applications where the Antique Brass finish and the horizontal line quality of the 1 by 1/4 inch mesh read as intentional rather than incidental. The 36 by 48 inch sheet is a workable stock size when multiple openings of different proportions are being cut from one panel.
Antique Brass is Kent Design's own finish name for this panel. Finish names vary by manufacturer, and a finish by the same name from a different brand may not be an identical match. Verify against your existing hardware before combining.
The 1 inch by 1/4 inch openings are not square, so the panel reads differently depending on which way the long axis of the mesh runs. Horizontal orientation gives horizontal bands; vertical orientation gives vertical ones. Either works, but the choice affects how the panel reads in the door.
Square wire has flat faces, so it holds light evenly across the wire surface and drops a sharper shadow at the corners. Round wire catches a single highlight along its crown and the edges fall into shadow gradually. The square section reads crisper and more architectural.

Choose this panel when the opening calls for an Antique Brass tone, a horizontal line quality, and the defined shadow lines that square wire delivers.
