The Knape and Vogt 8525 series is a 16 inch side-mount ball bearing file drawer slide rated 175 lb per pair, with 1-1/4 inch over-travel and a hold-in anti-rebound detent — built for file and heavy storage drawers that sit under countertop overhangs or behind deep face frames.
A standard full-extension slide brings the drawer face even with the cabinet front and stops. Under a countertop overhang or inside a deep face-frame opening, that means the back of the drawer is still blocked. The 8525's 1-1/4 inch over-travel carries the drawer past that point — a shallow file drawer under a kitchen island or a utility drawer behind a thick face frame opens completely rather than leaving rear contents out of reach. Pair that with the 175 lb rating and the hold-in detent, and this slide handles a loaded drawer in a demanding cabinet position without drama.
The 8525 series is built from cold-formed steel with a zinc electroplate finish. Zinc is the working standard for side-mount ball bearing slides: functional, durable indoors, and mostly hidden beside the drawer box once installed. This is not a decorative finish, and it is not rated for wet or exterior environments. The poly-pack includes mounting hardware.
Cabinet installers fitting file drawers under kitchen islands, designers specifying shallow utility drawers behind deep face frames, and shop owners building tool storage under workbench overhangs all run into the same problem: full extension is not enough travel. The 8525 solves it with over-travel at a 175 lb class rating that covers a drawer loaded with lateral files or heavy tools. At 16 inches, it fits shallower cabinet runs where longer file slides will not land. Face-frame installs need rear support at the back of the slide — add the matching KV rear mounting brackets, sold separately, or use a face-frame-specific mounting approach for this series.
A full-extension slide brings the drawer member out to approximately the slide's nominal length, stopping at the cabinet face. Over-travel goes further — on the 8525, the drawer travels 1-1/4 inches past that point. That extra distance clears a countertop overhang or deep face frame so the entire drawer interior is accessible.
No. 16 inches is the closed length of the slide. The drawer travels its full nominal length plus 1-1/4 inches of over-travel. Slide length and drawer travel are two separate specs.
It is a mechanical catch that keeps the drawer in the closed position and prevents it from bouncing back open after a firm close. It does not pull the drawer shut, and it does not slow or damp the closing — the drawer stays wherever you put it until intentionally pulled.
No. The 8525 is non-handed — both slides in the pair are identical and fit either side of the drawer box.
Yes, but face-frame installs require rear support at the back of the slide. Add the matching KV rear mounting brackets for this series — they are sold separately and are series-specific.
No. The 8525 has no damper. The hold-in anti-rebound detent keeps the drawer closed, but closing is standard motion — no soft-close, no self-close spring.
When 16 inches of depth, a 175 lb load, and the need to clear an overhang all land on the same drawer, the 8525 series is sized for exactly that combination — over-travel, heavy-duty capacity, and a stay-closed detent in one compact slide.
