A standard full-extension slide stops when the drawer reaches the cabinet face. In a run of base cabinets with a countertop overhang, or in a face-frame cabinet with a deep stile, that stopping point leaves rear contents partially blocked. The 6505 series travels 1 inch past full extension, so the back corner of the drawer clears the obstruction. File drawers, deep storage pulls, and utility drawers under workbenches are the most common applications. The 125 lb per pair rating covers those drawers when they are fully loaded — a meaningful step above the 100 lb class slides used in standard kitchen cabinets.
The slide members are cold-formed steel with a zinc finish, the workhorse combination for side-mount ball bearing slides in dry indoor service. Zinc plating is a functional, not decorative, finish — it sits inside the cabinet beside the drawer box and protects the steel from moisture and wear over years of daily use. The hold-in anti-rebound detent is a mechanical catch, not a spring and not a damper. It holds the drawer in the closed position until intentionally pulled, stopping the bounce-back that happens when a heavy drawer is pushed shut with force. There is no soft-close mechanism and no self-closing spring on this slide — the drawer stays exactly where it is left.

No. Fourteen inches is the closed length of the slide. Because this is an over-travel model, the drawer member actually travels the full nominal length plus 1 inch beyond — so the drawer clears the cabinet face by that extra inch. Slide length and drawer travel are two different numbers.

Face-frame cabinets set the cabinet side back from the front frame, so the rear end of the slide needs support. Add the matching rear mounting brackets for the 6505 series — they are sold separately and are not interchangeable with brackets from other KV series.
The zinc finish protects against normal indoor conditions. For high-humidity, wet, or exterior applications, a stainless steel slide is the right choice.
