The Grass Nexis 21 pie cut corner hinge is a concealed self-close hinge engineered for frameless cabinet doors that meet at an angled or pie-cut corner, mounted to the door via pre-bored dowel holes and opening to a full 170 degrees.
A pie cut corner cabinet has an angled face rather than a square front, and a standard concealed hinge cannot position the door correctly on that geometry. This Nexis 21 hinge is designed from the cup forward for that specific application: the arm geometry accounts for the corner angle so the door seats flush, swings clear of the adjacent cabinet, and pulls shut on its own. The 170 degree opening is what makes this configuration work in a tight corner where a narrower swing would leave the interior partly blocked. The 35mm cup bores into the door and the arm connects to a separate Grass base plate mounted to the cabinet side, sold separately. The plate is Grass-specific and not interchangeable with another brand's mounting system.
The dowel mount is the detail that sets this variant apart for production shops. Rather than driving cup screws after boring, the hinge presses its dowels directly into the pre-bored holes in the door, cutting a step from the install sequence on a CNC line. The 11mm cup depth and 45mm bore pattern are matched to the Nexis 21 boring spec. The hinge body is steel in a nickel finish, consistent with other Nexis hardware in the run. Because this hinge opens to 170 degrees, soft-close is not available at this angle: the self-close spring is the closing mechanism, drawing the door shut from a few degrees open.
This hinge is the right choice for frameless cabinets with a pie cut or angled front corner, where maximum swing is a priority and the shop is running CNC boring. It suits kitchen designers specifying corner cabinet solutions, cabinet shops building on a production line, and contractors who need a hinge that matches the angled geometry the cabinet was built for. For a door that needs a cushioned, damped close rather than a spring pull, the wide-angle pie cut range tops out at self-close at 170 degrees: choose a narrower opening angle if soft-close is required for that corner position.
The arm geometry is built for a cabinet face set at an angle rather than a flat 90-degree front. A standard concealed hinge would not position the door correctly on a pie cut opening.
The base plate mounts to the cabinet side and is sold separately. Use a Grass Nexis plate matched to your cabinet construction. Plates from other brands will not connect to this hinge.
Soft-close dampers are not engineered to function at the widest opening angles. At 170 degrees, self-close is the available closing mechanism. If a damped close is needed in a corner cabinet, a narrower opening angle is required.
The door needs pre-bored dowel holes at the Nexis 21 boring spec: a 35mm cup hole at 11mm depth with 45mm hole spacing. On a CNC line this is a standard program output. The dowels press in without cup screws.
Specify this hinge when the job calls for a pie cut corner cabinet that opens wide, closes on its own, and goes together fast on a CNC-bored door.
