The Würth #8 x 2-1/2" flat head assembly screw is built for panel joinery, cabinet carcass work, and any wood connection where the fastener needs to reach through thicker stock and bite well into the receiving piece. A #2 Phillips drive, coarse thread, Type 17 Auger point, and flat head with milling nibs work together for clean installation in wood-based materials.
At 2-1/2", this screw carries enough shank to pass through one panel and seat firmly in a second. That makes it a practical choice for attaching cabinet side panels to nailers, fastening back panels through face frames, connecting base cabinet carcasses together at the stile, or securing solid-wood components to sheet-good substrates. In any joint where the combined stack of material is at least 1-1/4" and you want the threaded section to fully engage the receiving member, this length hits the mark. The coarse thread is best matched to softwood framing, plywood, particleboard, and MDF — common materials throughout cabinet boxes and furniture carcasses.
The flat head seats flush or just below the surface, which matters anywhere the panel face will be visible or will contact another component. The milling nibs on the underside of the head cut a clean countersink in the material as the screw seats, so in most woodworking substrates a separate countersink operation is not required. The Type 17 Auger point is an extended version of the standard Type 17 design: the longer auger flute clears wood fiber and debris more aggressively, which reduces the resistance felt as the screw drives into thicker stock and lowers the chance of splitting near the entry point. Both features are particularly useful when driving repeatedly in high-volume assembly work, where consistency from screw to screw speeds the job.
Cabinet shops and furniture manufacturers driving dozens or hundreds of fasteners per shift benefit most from this format. The 2,500-piece box reduces interruptions, keeps the line moving, and suits the #8 x 2-1/2" size to the kind of repetitive panel assembly, carcass joining, and component attachment work that runs through a production environment. The #2 Phillips drive is compatible with the power drivers already on most benches and carts, so there is no new tooling to source. Interior cabinet work in dry conditions is the right environment for the zinc finish on this screw.
Coarse thread performs best in softwood, plywood, MDF, particleboard, and melamine-faced sheet goods — the panel and carcass materials most common in cabinet and furniture production.
In most wood-based substrates, the milling nibs under the flat head cut their own countersink as the screw seats, so a separate countersink step is typically not required. Very hard materials or visible finish surfaces may still benefit from a pre-drilled countersink.
The Auger point has a longer, more aggressive flute than a standard Type 17. That extended flute clears more material at the tip, which reduces driving torque and splitting risk in thicker or denser stock.
The zinc finish is rated for dry interior use. For exterior applications or contact with pressure-treated lumber, a coating rated for ACQ compatibility is required — this screw is for indoor work.
A standard #2 Phillips bit fits this screw. It is compatible with the cordless drills and impact drivers already common in cabinet shops and on installation sites.
When the joint calls for a flat-head assembly screw that reaches through thick panels, seats flush without extra prep, and drives cleanly in coarse-thread materials, the Würth #8 x 2-1/2" has the geometry and the box count to support a full production run.
