The Knape and Vogt 8650 series is a 24 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide rated 150 lb per pair, with an integrated soft-close damper that settles the drawer shut quietly. The zinc finish blends into the cabinet interior and holds up through years of daily cycling. Sold bulk-pack for shops fitting out multiple cabinets at a time.
A standard 100 lb cabinet slide handles most kitchen drawers without trouble. The 8650 steps in when the drawer carries real weight: a deep pantry pull-out stocked with canned goods, a utility drawer loaded with tools, a pot-and-pan drawer in a production kitchen, or a workroom drawer that gets yanked open dozens of times a day. The soft-close feature matters most in those high-use situations, where a plain slide either slams or wears out the closing mechanism faster than the damper would. At 24 inches, this slide suits standard cabinet-depth applications and deeper drawers where 18 or 21 inch slides would come up short.
The 8650 is built from steel throughout, with ball bearings running in full-length raceways for smooth, consistent travel under load. Zinc plating is the working standard for side-mount ball bearing slides — it protects the steel members in normal indoor conditions without adding bulk or changing the slide's profile. This is a functional finish, not a decorative one. It sits inside the cabinet beside the drawer box and is mostly out of sight once the drawer is installed. The 1/2 inch side clearance requirement is standard for this segment, and the non-handed construction means every slide in the bulk pack is interchangeable.
Cabinet shops running production kitchens and utility rooms reach for this SKU when they want a quiet, high-capacity slide at a quantity they can pull from stock. The zinc finish is the neutral, cost-effective choice when the interior finish color is not a spec requirement — it reads as a clean, professional install without a premium for color matching. Designers specifying kitchen renovations with heavier drawer loads, contractors fitting out mudrooms and laundry rooms, and homeowners replacing a worn-out slide on a deeply loaded drawer all land on the same answer: full extension, 150 lb, soft-close, zinc.
The 150 lb rating is per pair — both slides working together. Install one pair per drawer.
Soft-close means a damper slows the drawer to a controlled, quiet close over the last portion of travel. It is not the same as self-close: the drawer does not pull itself fully shut from a distance. Push it close to closed and the damper takes over from there.
Each slide requires 1/2 inch of side clearance, so the drawer box should be built 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening — 1/2 inch per side.
Side-mount slides need support at the back of the cabinet in face-frame construction. The 8650 does not include rear brackets; order the appropriate KV rear mounting brackets for your face-frame installation, sold separately.
The bulk-pack format is for shop and trade quantities. Confirm the pack count on the product listing to know exactly how many slides arrive per order, and plan for one pair per drawer.
When the drawer is heavy and the close needs to be quiet, the 8650 in zinc covers both without asking you to step up to a specialty finish or a custom order. Stock it, install it, and move on to the next cabinet.
