The Sugatsune J95 Series concealed hinge brings a free-swinging, 5/8-inch overlay mount to both face-frame and frameless cabinets, finished in nickel for installations where hardware stays visible in the open door position.
This hinge is built for doors that need to stay open wherever they are placed. Without a spring or damper, the door holds its position across the full 93-degree swing, which suits push-to-open systems, ADA-accessible cabinets, and any application where automatic closing would create friction rather than convenience. The J95's half-crank arm sets a 5/8-inch overlay, so the door covers the cabinet side by that amount when closed.
Both face-frame and frameless cabinets are supported. On a face-frame box, the hinge screws to the stile; on a frameless box, it mounts to the side panel through the base plate, sold separately. The 40mm cup bores into the back of the door, and the arm connects to a matching J95-series base plate. Because plates are series-specific, use a Sugatsune J95 plate; plates from other brands will not connect to this arm.
The hinge is steel with a nickel finish. Nickel reads as a warm, polished neutral, which makes it a natural match for cabinet hardware in silver, brushed, or chrome tones across kitchen, bath, and furniture builds. The finish holds up in dry, indoor environments. Because free-swinging hinges are visible when a door stands open, the nickel surface contributes to the finished look of the cabinet interior.
Cabinet shops building handle-less fronts with a push-to-open mechanism reach for this hinge because a self-close spring would fight the push-to-open catch. Designers specifying ADA-compliant kitchens use it where doors must stay open without force. Contractors fitting display cabinets, open shelving with partial-coverage doors, or any case where a door propped open needs to stay there will find this the right fit.
Standard doors in the 16 to 33mm range work with the J95 geometry. The maximum door thickness is 1-5/16 inches. For doors that need a damped, quiet close instead of a free swing, choose a soft-close version of this series. For a spring-pull close, choose the self-close variant.
No. This is a free-swinging hinge with no spring and no damper. The door stays wherever it is positioned. For the door to stay reliably closed, a catch or magnetic latch is needed.
No. The hinge arm connects to a base plate that mounts to the cabinet, and that plate is sold separately. Use a Sugatsune J95-series plate matched to your cabinet type and overlay.
The J95 series is designed for a thicker door range than a standard 35mm cup supports. The 40mm cup accommodates that geometry. It will not seat in a standard 35mm bore hole.
This hinge does not have a built-in damper, and a soft-close adapter would need to be confirmed as compatible with the J95 series before specifying. If a cushioned close is the goal from the start, choose a soft-close version of this series at order time.
Specify the J95 free-swinging hinge in nickel when the application calls for a door that holds its position, fits either cabinet construction type, and coordinates with silver-toned hardware throughout the build.
