The Quickscrews #8 x 1-3/4" flat head assembly screw is a coarse-thread, zinc-plated fastener built for wood-to-wood assembly work in cabinet shops and production environments. The extra quarter-inch of length over shorter family members makes it well suited to stock slightly thicker than three-quarter inch, including doubled panels, solid wood frames, and casework components where a shorter screw would not seat with enough thread engagement to pull the joint tight.
Most cabinet and casework assembly calls for screws sized to the combined stock at the joint. At 1-3/4", this screw reaches past three-quarter-inch face panels into a solid substrate behind them, and it threads fully into one-inch nominal solid wood without bottoming out short. Cabinet box assembly using dadoed or rabbet joints in 3/4" plywood, attaching solid wood edging to panel cores, and securing back panels through a rail or stretcher are all situations where the extra length relative to 1-1/2" screws makes a measurable difference in holding power. It also works well for assembling drawer components and interior partitions where the fastener needs to pass through one layer and grip firmly in another.
The flat head countersinks flush without protruding above the surface, which matters in interior cabinet work where exposed fastener heads create finishing problems. The nibs on the underside of the head mill into the wood as the screw seats, cleaning up the countersink and allowing the head to sit flat without requiring a pre-drilled recess in most softwoods, plywood, and MDF. The zinc finish protects against oxidation in the dry environments typical of cabinet shops and installed interior cabinetry. This is an indoor fastener; it is not intended for exterior, treated lumber, or high-humidity applications.
At 5,500 screws per box, this SKU is sized for shops running continuous assembly rather than occasional repairs. The square drive geometry is designed to hold the screw on the bit for placement at angles and in tight interiors where repositioning is slow, and the Type 17 auger point starts without walking on panel surfaces. Cabinet manufacturers, millwork shops, and installers who go through large quantities of #8 assembly screws in a single project will find the box quantity practical for keeping a station stocked without constant replenishment.
A 1-3/4" screw passing through a 3/4" face will have about an inch of thread engagement in the second panel, which is typically sufficient for cabinet assembly joints. For structural or load-bearing doubled panels, confirm the joint design calls for this length before committing to a run.
The nibs on the underside of the head are designed to mill into the surface as the screw seats, so in most softwoods, plywood, MDF, and particleboard the head will pull flush without a separate countersink step. In harder woods or dense laminates, a countersink pass first produces a cleaner result.
This screw uses a #2 square drive bit. The square recess is designed to hold the screw on a correctly sized bit for placement before driving.
Yes. The coarse thread is well matched to the fiber density of particleboard and MDF, and the Type 17 auger point reduces the torque needed to start the screw in those materials. Avoid over-driving, which can strip the hole in low-density engineered panels.
No. The zinc finish on this screw is rated for dry indoor conditions. Use a corrosion-resistant coating rated for exterior exposure or ACQ-treated lumber if the application is outside.
When the stock is thick enough that a 1-1/2" screw leaves you short on thread engagement, the 1-3/4" length closes that gap without over-penetrating thinner components. Pair the Type 17 auger point and flat head with nibs, and you get a screw that starts clean, countersinks itself, and pulls flush in one operation across the range of panels and solid wood most cabinet shops work with every day.
