The Würth #8 x 1-3/4" ASSY Assembly Screw is a flat head, fine-thread fastener engineered for cabinet assembly, hardwood face frames, and solid-wood panel joinery where clean countersinking and strong thread engagement matter. The 1-3/4" length is well matched to joining 3/4-inch hardwood components — pulling them tight without over-penetrating the opposite face — making it a reliable size for cabinet box assembly, stile-to-rail connections, and similar production work.
Screw length is one of the more consequential choices in cabinet assembly, and 1-3/4" hits a practical middle range. Driving through a 3/4-inch face frame component into the cabinet box side leaves roughly an inch of thread engagement in the receiving panel — enough for strong pull-out resistance without punching through. The same length works well for drawer box assembly using 1/2-inch sides, attaching back panels to cabinet carcasses, and connecting interior partitions. For shops running a mix of face-frame and box work, this length handles both without a bit change or a bin swap.
The fine thread is the right choice when the receiving material is hardwood — maple, oak, cherry, or similar dense species common in face-frame cabinetry. Fine threads bite more densely into tight wood grain, improving holding power and reducing the risk of the screw spinning out under load. The drill point does the work of starting the screw cleanly, with sharp cutting edges and chip clearance that help prevent material from splitting at the entry point. Once the screw approaches final depth, the milling nibs on the underside of the flat head mill a clean countersink, collecting chips and seating the head flush. The result is a fastener that drives from start to final seat in one continuous motion, without needing a pilot hole or a countersink bit in most cabinet-grade hardwoods.
Cabinet shops running production lines in hardwood species will get the most out of this screw. The fine thread, drill point, and nibs work together in a way that is specifically tuned for dense wood — not engineered panels or softwood framing, where a coarse thread would outperform. Finish carpenters and millwork shops installing hardwood face frames or solid-wood carcasses will also find the 1-3/4" length and flat head useful where a flush, clean seat is part of the finished look. The 500-count box and included RW20 bit make it practical for any shop that drives these screws in volume.
Fine thread provides denser engagement in hardwoods like maple and oak, where the tight grain structure responds better to closer thread spacing. Coarse thread is better suited to softwoods, particleboard, and MDF, where the wider pitch grips the lower-density fiber matrix more effectively.
In most cabinet-grade hardwoods, the drill point allows the screw to start and drive without a separate pilot hole. Very dense or brittle hardwoods close to an edge may still benefit from a pilot to prevent splitting — judgment on that is best made at the bench with the specific material.
The RW20 is a Würth-specific drive with a deeper recess and broader contact wings than a standard star or Phillips recess. This improves torque transfer and reduces bit wear during repetitive driving. It requires the dedicated RW20 bit, which is included in the box.
The fine thread on this screw is optimized for hardwood. For MDF and particleboard, a coarse-thread ASSY screw will typically provide better pull-out resistance in those lower-density engineered panels.
The zinc finish is suited to dry interior environments. This screw is not rated for outdoor exposure or high-humidity conditions where a more robust corrosion-resistant coating would be required.
When the material is hardwood and the joint needs a flush, clean seat, the 1-3/4" fine-thread ASSY screw does the job from first contact to final seating without extra steps — and the 500-count box keeps the bin full through a full production day.
