This Rev-A-Shelf 4PILU pilaster system provides the vertical shelf-standard infrastructure for adjustable shelving inside base or wall cabinets, supplied in natural maple to coordinate with wood interior finishes.
A pilaster is the vertical slotted strip that accepts shelf pins or clips, allowing shelves to be repositioned up or down without drilling new holes. Installing pilasters in all four interior corners of a cabinet turns a fixed-shelf box into a configurable storage space. The 57-7/16 inch length covers a full-height interior, so shelf positions can be set anywhere along the run rather than being locked into a factory-drilled pattern. This matters most in base cabinets where stored items vary in height, and where a half-inch of adjustment can mean the difference between wasted airspace and a shelf that fits the contents.
The pilasters are made from natural maple, a close-grained hardwood that takes stain and clear finish predictably. In a cabinet shop setting, maple pilasters can be finished alongside the cabinet box to match or contrast the interior, or left natural when the interior will receive a painted or laminated liner. The 3/4 inch depth seats into a standard dado or channel without projecting past the interior face. At 2-3/8 inches wide, the strip is narrow enough to stay out of the way of contents while still providing a dense slot pattern for fine shelf-height adjustments.
A pack of 20 pilasters suits a cabinet shop outfitting a multi-cabinet kitchen run, a millwork installer building out a pantry wall, or a woodworker adding adjustable shelving to a custom piece. Four pilasters equip one cabinet; 20 pilasters cover five cabinets, which maps to a typical base run or a set of matching wall cabinets. Designers specifying wood-interior cabinets will find the maple finish easier to coordinate than a metal alternative when the interior is meant to read as furniture rather than utility storage.
A standard four-corner installation uses four pilasters per cabinet. A pack of 20 equips five cabinets at that count. If a cabinet uses only two pilasters per side, the pack stretches further.
Maple pilasters can be crosscut to fit a shorter cabinet interior. Cut from the top end to preserve the slot spacing from the bottom reference point.
The 4PILU series is designed to accept compatible Rev-A-Shelf shelf clips and pins sized for the 4PILU slot pattern. Confirm pin compatibility with the slot style before ordering shelf hardware.
Maple takes paint well, so these pilasters can be primed and painted to match a white or painted interior. If the interior will not be finished at all, a metal pilaster may be more practical for a utility application.
Specify this maple pilaster system when the cabinet interior calls for a wood standard that finishes cleanly, adjusts precisely, and supplies enough strips for a full multi-cabinet project.
