Answers
Common questions
Which Jowat adhesive fits my edgebander?
Pellets in 44 lb bags are for edgebanders with a glue pot. The Holz-Her cartridges are made for Holz-Her edgebanders that take cartridges, as the product name states. The product page lists each adhesive's details.
What is the difference between Jowatherm 280.30 and Jowat ClearMelt 280.90?
Both are EVA hot melts for automatic edgebanding. Jowat describes 280.30 as an unfilled, medium viscosity hot melt in a natural color, applied at 356 to 392 °F. ClearMelt 280.90 is a clear, high viscosity hot melt, applied at 374 to 410 °F.
Which edgebands do they bond?
Jowat lists 280.30 for solid wood, veneer, primed thermoplastic (PVC, ABS, PP) and resinated paper edgebands, and 280.90 for solid wood, veneer and primed PVC, ABS and PP. Thermoplastic edges need a primed back. Jowat also lists both for soft forming.
What feed speed do they run at?
Jowat gives 280.30 a feed speed of 15 to 120 ft/min with roller application and 30 to 120 ft/min with nozzle application. For 280.90 it is 50 to 180 ft/min with a roller and 30 to 120 ft/min with a nozzle.
What does the softening point tell me?
It is the temperature at which the solid adhesive starts to soften in a laboratory (Ring & Ball) test: about 221 °F for both 280.30 and 280.90. It describes the adhesive, not how much heat a finished edge will take.
How should I store hot melt pellets?
Jowat's data sheets for 280.30 and 280.90 call for dry storage between 59 and 77 °F. For the 288.60 pellets, Jowat says to store them dry, clean and cool, and to keep them below 120 °F so the pellets do not block together.
How are these sold?
Prices are per pound, with a minimum order of one bag or cartridge: 44 lb for the pellets, 26 lb or 35 lb for the Holz-Her cartridges.
