KV 8908 Single Slide 26" Hold-In/Hold-Out Side Mount Full Extension 500 lb Ball Bearing Drawer Slide, Zinc, 8908B 26

Zinc-Finished Ball Bearing Drawer Slide Built for 500 lb Industrial Work

This is a 26 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide from Knape & Vogt's 8908 series, rated 500 lb and finished in zinc. It combines a hold-in detent to keep the drawer closed with a hold-out detent to keep it open, making it the right slide for heavy industrial, shop, and institutional drawers where the contents are substantial and the drawer needs to stay exactly where it is put.

Key Features

• 500 lb weight capacity per pair — engineered for heavy tooling, parts storage, and industrial loads well beyond the standard cabinet class.
• Full extension — the drawer clears the cabinet face completely so everything stored at the back is reachable.
• Hold-in detent — a mechanical catch keeps the drawer firmly closed and prevents bounce-back after a firm push.
• Hold-out detent — the slide holds the drawer in the fully open position hands-free, releasing with a deliberate push.
• Non-handed design — both slides in the pair are identical, so no left/right sorting is needed at the bench or on the production floor.
• Zinc finish on steel — standard indoor corrosion protection for a slide that works hard and stays mostly out of sight.

Where the Hold-In/Hold-Out Combination Earns Its Keep

Heavy drawers have a way of misbehaving at both ends of travel. A loaded shop drawer pushed shut with force bounces back open unless something catches it — that is the hold-in detent's job. The same drawer, pulled open on a busy bench, tends to roll closed on its own weight unless something stops it — that is the hold-out detent. The 8908 series handles both problems in one slide. This 26 inch length suits deep drawers in floor cabinets, rolling shop carts, equipment bases, and institutional storage units where the load routinely tests the limits of a standard 100 lb cabinet slide.

Steel Construction and Zinc Finish

The slide members are formed steel with a zinc finish — the working standard for side-mount ball bearing slides in indoor applications. Zinc keeps the steel protected through daily use in a shop or utility environment without adding unnecessary cost. This is a functional finish on hardware that lives beside the drawer box and rarely sees daylight. For wet, washdown, or food-service environments, specify stainless; for decorative applications, consider the finish options in the same 8908 family. For a dry indoor shop, garage, or workroom, zinc is the right call.

Selecting the 8908 Series for Your Application

The 8908 is not a kitchen cabinet slide. At 500 lb capacity, it is sized for mechanics' tool chests, industrial workbenches, heavy-duty storage cabinets, library pull-outs, and institutional case goods where standard-class slides are underspec'd. The 3/4 inch side clearance per side is wider than the half-inch clearance of standard ball bearing slides, so the drawer box must be sized accordingly — build it 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening to leave the correct gap on each side. In face-frame cabinets, rear mounting brackets are required; check that any rear hardware is rated to match the 8908's load class. This SKU ships in bulk pack and is sold as a pair.

A Slide That Stays Put in Both Positions

When the drawer is heavy and the job is serious, the 8908 series in zinc delivers full extension, 500 lb capacity, and the security of a slide that holds the drawer closed until you pull it and holds it open until you push it closed — so the hardware works as hard as everything else in the shop.
