18 Inch Over-Travel Ball Bearing Slide For Heavy Drawers Under Overhangs

The Knape and Vogt 8815 series is an 18 inch side-mount ball bearing drawer slide rated 190 lb per pair, with 1 inch of over-travel that carries the drawer past full extension. It is the right call when a worktop overhang or deep face frame would cut off access to the back of the drawer at full open.

Key Features

• 190 lb weight capacity per pair — handles heavy storage drawers well beyond the standard 100 lb cabinet class.
• 1 inch over-travel — the drawer member extends 1 inch past the slide's nominal length, clearing counter overhangs and deep face frames.
• Steel ball bearings in full-length raceways — smooth, consistent travel under heavy load across the full range of extension.
• Non-handed design — both slides in the pair are identical, with no left or right to sort on the bench.
• Standard motion — no self-close, soft-close, or detent mechanism; the drawer stays wherever it is left.
• Zinc finish on steel — the segment's standard indoor corrosion-resistant finish, functional and durable in cabinetry and shop environments.

Where Over-Travel and High Capacity Work Together

An 18 inch slide at this load class fits a specific kind of drawer: one that carries real weight and sits under an obstruction that would block full access at ordinary extension. Shop tool drawers under a thick benchtop, kitchen pot drawers beneath a thick stone overhang, and storage drawers behind a deep face frame all benefit from the extra inch of travel. The 190 lb per pair rating means the slide does not limit what goes in the drawer — load it to capacity and it still cycles cleanly.

Standard motion means there is nothing mechanical fighting you when you pull the drawer or leave it partway open. For drawers on a workbench or utility run where the drawer needs to stay put without a detent, this is the right configuration.

Steel Construction With Zinc Finish

The slide is formed from steel and finished in zinc, the standard corrosion-resistant plating for side-mount ball bearing slides used indoors. Zinc protects the steel members through years of shop or cabinet service without adding bulk. This is a working finish, not a decorative one — the slide sits beside the drawer box and is largely out of sight once the drawer is closed. Do not use this slide in wet, marine, or outdoor environments where a zinc finish is not sufficient.

Specifying the 8815 for Your Install

The 8815 series requires 3/4 inch of side clearance per side — more than the 1/2 inch typical of standard side-mount ball bearing slides. Build the drawer box 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening to leave the correct clearance for each slide. The non-handed design means both slides in the pair are the same part, and the 32mm-compatible hole pattern fits production frameless cabinet work directly. For face-frame cabinets, rear mounting brackets are required to support the back of the slide; these are sold separately and are series-specific. This SKU ships in bulk pack, suited to shop orders and production runs rather than single-drawer retail needs.

Common Questions

A High-Capacity Slide That Clears the Obstruction

When the drawer is heavy and the opening has an overhang in the way, the 8815 series solves both problems at once — 190 lb capacity per pair and 1 inch of extra travel, in a zinc-finished steel slide that drops into a standard side-mount install with one clearance adjustment.
