The Knape and Vogt 8815 Series is a 24 inch over-travel side-mount ball bearing drawer slide rated 190 lb per pair, finished in zinc, and designed for drawers that need to clear a countertop overhang or a deep face frame. The slide carries the drawer 1 inch past full extension, making the back of the drawer reachable even when the cabinet sits below a worktop lip.
A plain full-extension slide stops at the cabinet face. Under a countertop overhang, that means the rear contents are still blocked by the lip above. The 8815's 1 inch of over-travel pushes the drawer box forward past that point, so deep storage at the back of the drawer is actually reachable. The same extra inch matters in face-frame cabinets with a thick stile, or in any run where the drawer sits recessed behind a structural element. At 190 lb per pair, this slide also handles drawers that go well beyond typical kitchen loads — hardware storage, heavy tooling, or dense archival material.
The 8815 is built from formed steel members with ball bearings running in full-length raceways. The zinc finish provides indoor corrosion resistance and is the workhorse standard for side-mount ball bearing slides: functional, durable, and unobtrusive beside an open drawer. It is not a stainless or decorative finish, and it is not rated for wet or outdoor environments. Keep it to dry, indoor installations and it will perform through years of daily use.
Cabinet shops and contractors specifying drawers under kitchen or workbench overhangs are the core audience for this slide. The 190 lb rating also makes it a natural fit for shop cabinetry, garage storage, and utility runs where drawers carry real weight. At 24 inches, it suits deeper-than-average drawer boxes where a shorter slide would leave wasted cabinet depth. Because the design is non-handed, the same pair installs in any position without sorting. Note that this slide requires 3/4 inch of side clearance per side, which is wider than the 1/2 inch standard for most 100 lb cabinet slides — size the drawer box accordingly. This SKU ships as a Bulk-Pack.
No. 24 inches is the closed length of the slide. With over-travel, the drawer member extends 1 inch past that nominal length, so the travel is approximately 25 inches. Slide length and drawer travel are two separate specs.
The 8815 series is built to a wider profile to handle its 190 lb load class. Build the drawer box 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening to leave 3/4 inch of side clearance for each slide.
Neither. The 8815 is a standard-motion slide with no closing feature — no spring, no damper, no detent. The drawer stays wherever it is left.
No. The design is non-handed, so both slides in the pair are identical. Order one pair per drawer.
Face-frame cabinets require rear mounting support because the cabinet side is set back from the face frame. Add the matching series rear mounting brackets, sold separately, to support the back end of the slide.
When a standard full-extension slide leaves rear contents blocked by a countertop lip or a thick face frame, the 8815's 1 inch of over-travel solves the problem cleanly — and its 190 lb rating means the application does not have to be light-duty to use it.
