A plain ball bearing slide stays wherever it is left — useful for drawers, but a hazard under a desk where a stray knee sends the keyboard tray sliding out. The 8150's hold-in detent keeps the tray retracted until deliberately pulled. At the open position, the hold-out detent engages so the tray stays extended while both hands are on the keyboard. Neither position requires tools or levers to release — a firm intentional push or pull does it. That combination is what separates a keyboard-specific slide from a repurposed drawer slide.
