Advice and support from knowledgeable professionals.
This United Plastics rubber extrusion is a grooved-type panel retainer designed to hold glass and panel inserts securely in a machined frame. Supplied on a 100 foot roll in Clear, it is a clean, fastener-free solution for glazed cabinet doors and similar frame-and-panel applications.
A grooved-type retainer is pressed into a channel machined around the interior of a frame opening. Once seated, the groove holds the strip in place behind the glass or panel, and nothing is fastened through the rubber itself. The result is a clean front face with no visible fastener line. That is the distinguishing advantage of the grooved type, and it is also the one requirement: the frame must already have the groove. This retainer is for grooved frames only and is not interchangeable with the stapled type, which is made for frames without a machined groove.
Clear retainer suits the widest range of frame finishes because it does not introduce a color line behind the glass. On painted white frames it disappears, and on natural or lightly stained wood it reads as a thin bright edge rather than a contrasting stripe. For shops running mixed finishes or specifying a single retainer color across a variety of door styles, Clear is the practical default. Other colors in this range, including Black, White, Fruitwood, and Dark Brown, are available for frames where a closer blend is the goal.
Cabinet shops producing glazed door frames machined for grooved retainer are the primary users of this product. It also suits millwork and furniture applications where a glass or panel insert needs to be held without visible hardware. The 100 foot roll length works well for a single large job or a modest ongoing production volume. For continuous shop use across a full season of glazed doors, the 500 foot roll in this same style and color is also available.
A machined groove around the inside of the frame opening. The strip seats into that groove and is held by it. Without the groove, the grooved type has nothing to anchor it.
No. Grooved and stapled retainers are made for different frame preparations and are not interchangeable. For a frame without a machined groove, the stapled type is the correct product.
Profile dimension and groove size data are not available for this product. Confirm the cross-section against your frame's groove before ordering.
100 feet.
For glazed cabinet frames machined to accept grooved retainer, this clear rubber extrusion delivers a fastener-free, low-profile hold on a roll long enough to carry a full job.
