This is a 16 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide from Knape and Vogt's 8417 series, rated 100 lb per pair, with a self-closing spring that pulls the drawer fully shut once it is pushed within the capture zone. Zinc finish, non-handed steel construction, and a poly-pack make it a practical choice for production cabinet shops and single-drawer installs alike.
Kitchens and bath vanities are the natural home for this slide. A loaded drawer pushed to within an inch of closed travels the rest of the way on its own — the spring capture keeps the front flush and the drawer from sitting ajar. The same behavior is useful in a laundry room cabinet or a home office credenza where the drawer gets bumped shut rather than pressed deliberately. Because the 16 inch slide length suits shallower cabinet boxes, it is a common choice for base cabinet drawers in tight galley kitchens, narrow bath vanities, and upper-cabinet pull-outs where a 21 or 22 inch slide simply will not fit.
The slide members are cold-rolled steel with a bright zinc electroplate. Zinc is the workhorse finish in this segment: it resists the humidity and cleaning agents found in kitchen and bath environments, stays neutral against most cabinet interiors, and holds up through the wear cycles of daily use. This is not a decorative finish and it is not stainless — it is the right choice for indoor cabinetry where a functional, low-profile appearance beside the drawer box is all that is needed.
The 8417 series targets the standard cabinet duty class — 100 lb per pair — so it covers the typical kitchen drawer loaded with cookware, a bath vanity stocked with supplies, or a shop bench drawer holding hand tools. It is not rated for file drawers or heavy storage applications; for those, move up to the 150 lb class. At 16 inches, the slide suits drawer boxes in the 14 to 16 inch depth range and is sold as a poly-pack pair, so one SKU completes one drawer.
Self-close. A spring pulls the drawer fully shut once it enters the capture zone, but there is no damper. The drawer closes positively, not gradually. If you need a damped, quiet close, look at the FR 5001 soft-close series instead.
Full extension — the drawer member travels approximately the full 16 inch slide length, carrying the drawer box completely out to the cabinet face. The 16 inch figure is the closed slide length, not a travel distance you subtract from.
No. The 8417 is non-handed — both slides in the poly-pack are identical and either one installs on either side of the drawer.
1/2 inch per side. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening to give each slide its required clearance.
It can, but side-mount slides need rear support in face-frame construction because the cabinet side is set back from the face frame. Add the matching KV rear mounting brackets — sold separately — to support the back end of the slide.
The 8417 series removes the half-open drawer from the list of things to deal with at the end of the day — push it to within an inch and the spring takes it home, flush and closed.
