Where Rift White Oak Makes the Difference

Rift-sawn white oak is cut at an angle to the growth rings, producing a straighter, tighter grain than flat-sawn oak and none of the pronounced cathedral figuring that can compete with surrounding door profiles. In a kitchen built on shaker, slab, or linear cabinet doors, that calm grain reads as intentional rather than incidental. The Verona hood uses this character grain throughout the shell, so the hood reads as a natural extension of the cabinetry rather than a decorative accent dropped in from a different design language.

At 36 inches wide and 36 inches tall, the shell carries enough height to bridge the hood body to upper cabinets or a soffit without leaving a gap, and the 19-inch depth fits comfortably over most residential range positions.

Finishing and Installation

The shell ships unfinished, which is the right state for any project where the hood finish needs to match a custom stain or paint applied to the cabinets on site. Stain, paint, and clear coat all adhere well to unfinished rift white oak, and because rift white oak accepts stain evenly, blending to an adjacent species or a custom color is easier than with more porous or heavily figured woods.

The included Broan-compatible liner bridges the shell and the ventilation unit. The liner seats inside the hood body and accepts a compatible Broan insert, which is selected separately to match the cooktop and the ventilation requirements of the room. The shell itself is the decorative enclosure and does not move air on its own.

The Right Fit for This Hood

The Verona in rift white oak is a strong choice for contemporary, transitional, and Scandinavian-influenced kitchens where the cabinet material is white oak or a complementary species and the design calls for clean, unfussy surfaces. Cabinet shops finishing a full white oak kitchen will find this shell straightforward to match. Designers specifying a statement hood for a higher-end renovation can finish it to a custom color without fighting the grain. Contractors installing on-site can coordinate the finishing sequence with the cabinet painter and hang the hood before the final coat.
