This is a 12 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide from Knape and Vogt's 8850 FM series, rated 200 lb per pair, with Force Management soft-close damping built into the slide. The zinc finish puts a proven, low-profile corrosion-resistant coating on heavy steel members — the right combination when the drawer is heavy, the use is frequent, and the finish needs to stay in the background.
A standard 100 lb cabinet slide is sized for kitchen drawers and light utility work. The 8850 FM series steps up to applications where the load is genuinely heavy: deep tool drawers, hardware storage, commercial shop furniture, and utility cabinets that stay loaded day after day. At 12 inches, this slide fits compact drawers — the kind in workbenches, bedside units, and lower base cabinets where the interior is short but the contents are dense. Full extension means the back of even a short drawer is reachable without digging.
The slide is cold-formed steel throughout, with a zinc electroplate finish. Zinc is the working standard for side-mount ball bearing slides used indoors: it resists the surface corrosion that comes with shop humidity and normal handling without adding cost or bulk. The finish is functional, not decorative — it sits inside the cabinet beside the open drawer, largely out of sight. For applications where the visible finish matters, other finishes in this series are available. The butterfly lever disconnect is part of the steel slide assembly, not a plastic clip; it handles the extra stress of removing a fully loaded drawer.
Cabinet shops building commercial furniture, shop fixtures, or heavy-use residential pieces reach for the 8850 FM series when a 100 lb slide is not enough and soft-close is still required. The 3/4 inch side clearance per side is wider than the standard 1/2 inch, so the drawer box must be built 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening — plan for that before cutting boxes. The Bulk-Pack format suits production installs: order the quantity needed for a run and pull from stock without counting retail packs. In face-frame cabinets, rear mounting brackets are required and sold separately; the slide mounts directly to the side panel in frameless construction.
Per pair. The two slides together carry 200 lb — do not double the number by counting each slide separately.
KV's Force Management system uses a dampening cylinder with a balanced spring to regulate closing speed under varying loads. The result is a controlled, quiet close whether the drawer is empty or near its 200 lb limit.
The heavier steel members and FM damper module of the 8850 series add profile width. Build the drawer box 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening — 3/4 inch per side — to give each slide the space it needs.
Side-mount slides in face-frame cabinets need rear support. Add the matching KV rear mounting brackets, sold separately, to carry the back of the slide.
Press both butterfly levers inward and lift — the drawer member releases and the drawer comes free. No tools required, and the levers reset automatically when the drawer is reinstalled.
The 8850 FM in zinc delivers the 200 lb capacity and FM soft-close the heavy-use drawer demands, in the trade-quantity Bulk-Pack format that keeps a production install stocked and on schedule.
