The Knape and Vogt 8850 series is a 20 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide rated 200 lb per pair, with an integrated Force Management (FM) soft-close damper and a zinc finish built for years of indoor service. This is the heavy-duty end of the FM soft-close family, designed for wide, loaded drawers that standard 100 lb cabinet slides cannot handle.
The 200 lb class rating opens up applications that sit well outside standard kitchen cabinetry. Deep pantry drawers stacked with canned goods, utility and laundry cabinet drawers carrying cleaning supplies and tools, and shop-floor storage drawers loaded with hardware or hand tools all push past what a 100 lb slide is rated to carry. The FM soft-close module handles that extra weight without hammering the damper — the system is designed around heavier loads, not just tolerating them. Full extension means the back of a deep drawer is actually reachable, which matters when the drawer is 20 inches deep and packed full.
Both the cabinet and drawer members are cold-formed steel with a zinc electroplated finish. Zinc is the working standard for side-mount ball bearing slides: corrosion-resistant for dry indoor environments, durable through years of daily cycling, and unobtrusive beside an open drawer box. The FM soft-close module is part of the slide assembly, not a clip-on add-on, so the damping is consistent across the full load range the slide is rated for. Note that the 8850FM series requires 3/4 inch of side clearance per side — slightly more than the 1/2 inch needed by standard KV 8400-class slides — so the drawer box must be sized accordingly.
The 8850FM 20 inch slide is the right call when the drawer needs a 200 lb capacity and soft-close in the same package, and the application is indoor cabinetry where zinc finish performs as expected. Cabinet shops equipping high-end kitchens with wide pot drawers, contractors fitting out laundry rooms or pantries, and designers specifying heavy pull-out shelves all land on this slide when they need the combination of damped closing and genuine heavy-duty load capacity. At 3/4 inch clearance per side, it takes 1-1/2 inches of total width from the cabinet opening — plan the drawer box width before the box is built. This is a Bulk-Pack SKU, which makes it practical for shops running multiple cabinets on the same order.
Per pair. Both slides together carry 200 lb; do not double the number by counting each slide separately.
Force Management (FM) combines a dampening cylinder with a balanced spring, so the closing resistance is calibrated across the slide's full rated load range. It is damped closing, not a self-closing spring and not a hold-in detent.
Yes. Allow 3/4 inch per side, so the drawer box is built 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening total. This is wider than the 1/2 inch clearance on the standard 8400-class KV slides.
Side-mount slides need support at the rear of the cabinet in face-frame construction. KV rear mounting brackets for the 8850 series are sold separately; confirm the bracket part number for this series before ordering.
Bulk-Pack units ship in trade quantities rather than individual retail bags. Confirm the pack quantity in the spec block before placing a production order.
The KV 8850FM in zinc brings 200 lb capacity and FM soft-close together in a side-mount slide that installs without handed sorting and ships in quantities that make sense for shop work.
