This is an 18 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide from Knape and Vogt's 8414 series, rated 100 lb per pair, with a hold-out detent that keeps the drawer in the open position until intentionally pushed closed. The zinc finish blends into the cabinet interior and stands up to years of indoor service.
A standard drawer stays open only as long as nothing nudges it. The 8414's hold-out detent changes that: the slide locks in the extended position so the drawer stays put while both hands are busy. Think of a utility drawer held open during a wiring run, a workshop tray extended while parts are sorted, or a prep-area pull-out that needs to stay clear while loading. The full-extension travel means the back of the drawer clears the cabinet face completely, so nothing is buried at the rear. When the task is done, a normal push releases the detent and the drawer closes.
The slide members are cold-formed steel with a zinc electroplate finish. Zinc is the working standard for side-mount ball bearing slides: it resists oxidation in dry indoor environments and holds up through the daily open-and-close cycles of a busy cabinet without chipping or flaking. The zinc tone is neutral enough to recede against most cabinet interiors, keeping the focus on the drawer front rather than the hardware beside it.
The 8414 series in zinc suits cabinet shops running production volume — the Bulk-Pack format is built for that — as well as contractors and serious DIYers who want a stay-open feature on specific drawers without switching to a specialty slide. It fits frameless and face-frame cabinets alike. In face-frame construction, plan for rear mounting brackets at the back of the cabinet; those brackets are series-specific and sold separately. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening to leave the required 1/2 inch of side clearance per slide, and confirm the cabinet's interior depth accommodates the 18 inch slide length before ordering.
No. The 8414 is a hold-out slide, not a hold-in slide. It detents in the open position to keep the drawer extended, but it applies no resistance to closing. The drawer closes freely once pushed past the detent. If you also need a stay-closed feature, look at a hold-in or hold-in/hold-out model.
No. 18 inches is the closed length of the slide. Because this is a full-extension design, travel is approximately the full slide length, bringing the whole drawer out to the cabinet face. Slide length and drawer travel are two separate specs.
Neither. The 8414 is a standard-motion slide with a hold-out detent. There is no damper and no spring-close mechanism. The drawer closes freely when pushed and stops where left.
No. The 8414 is non-handed, so both slides in the pair are identical. Order by drawer count, not by side.
Bulk-Pack means the slides ship loose in a trade-quantity carton rather than in a retail polybag. It is the format most cabinet shops prefer for bench efficiency. Confirm the pack quantity shown on the product page to match your order to your drawer count.
When the work calls for a drawer that stays where you put it, the KV 8414 in zinc delivers full-extension access, a genuine hold-out detent, and a 100 lb rating — packaged in a format that keeps a busy shop stocked.
