The Knape and Vogt 4450 series is a 10 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide with an integrated soft-close damper, rated 65 lb per pair. Its low-profile design and zinc finish make it a clean, functional choice for small cabinet drawers where smooth travel and quiet closing matter.
A 10 inch slide serves a specific range of small drawers: bathroom vanity drawers, nightstand drawers, shallow desktop organizer drawers, and compact utility cabinets where a longer slide simply will not fit. The soft-close feature is particularly valuable in bedroom and bath settings, where slam noise is noticed more than it would be in a shop environment. Full extension means the drawer opens completely — useful even in small drawers where a folded piece of hardware or a travel-sized item hiding at the back would otherwise require digging.
Zinc plating is the standard corrosion-resistant finish for side-mount ball bearing slides, and it suits the job. The finish blends into the cabinet interior without demanding attention, holds up through years of daily cycling in dry indoor conditions, and carries no special maintenance requirement. For cabinetmakers building painted or white-interior boxes, zinc reads as a neutral metal tone that sits beside the drawer box without competing with the finish work. It is a functional finish, not a decorative one — and that is exactly what a slide inside a closed cabinet needs to be.
The 4450 series is the right call when the drawer depth and cabinet interior allow a 10 inch slide and the application falls in the light-duty range. Small bathroom vanities, bedroom furniture, and compact office storage are the natural fit. The 1/2 inch side clearance requirement is standard for ball bearing side-mount slides: build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening and both slides seat correctly. In face-frame cabinet construction, rear mounting support is needed at the back of the slide — rear mounting brackets for this series are sold separately. The Bulk-Pack format suits production orders where a shop is building several matching cabinets in a single run.
True soft-close — the 4450 series uses a damper module that slows the drawer to a controlled, quiet close. It is not a self-closing spring ramp, which pulls the drawer shut without slowing it.
The slide requires 1/2 inch of side clearance per side. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening to seat both slides correctly.
Yes. Full extension means the drawer member travels the full slide length, bringing the entire drawer out to the cabinet face. The back of the drawer is fully accessible at full open.
No. The 4450 is non-handed, so both slides in the pair are identical and either slide fits either side of the drawer.
Bulk-Pack means the slides are packaged in a trade-quantity carton rather than individual retail polybags. It is the practical choice for shops building multiple drawers in a production run.
When the job calls for a compact soft-close slide that installs simply, travels fully, and stays out of sight behind a drawer face, the KV 4450 series in zinc delivers exactly that — run after run.
