The Knape and Vogt 4450 series is a 16 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide with integrated soft-close, finished in zinc, and built to a low-profile height that fits tighter cabinet interiors without sacrificing smooth, damped closing. Sold in a bulk pack, it suits cabinet shops and contractors specifying soft-close drawers across a full project.
At 16 inches, this slide suits shallower drawers: base cabinet spice pull-outs, bathroom vanity drawers, nightstand and dresser drawers, and shallow utility cabinets where a longer slide would run past the available interior depth. Full extension is the right choice whenever the contents at the back of the drawer need to be reachable without digging — spice jars, rolled linens, or bathroom essentials all benefit from a drawer that clears the opening completely. The bulk pack format makes it straightforward to run the same slide across a multi-drawer project without mixing cartons.
Zinc plating over cold-rolled steel is the workhorse finish for side-mount ball bearing slides. It protects the steel members through years of indoor use, and its neutral tone disappears against a painted or melamine cabinet interior. Zinc is not a stainless or decorative finish — it is built for function inside a closed cabinet, not for visibility. For applications where the slide color needs to match a specific interior, the 4450 series is also available in other finishes; this SKU is the zinc version.
The 4450 series is a strong fit for residential kitchen and bath cabinetry, light office work, and furniture drawers where soft-close matters and the drawer load stays within the 65 lb per pair rating. The low-profile height makes it especially useful in face-frame and frameless cabinets where vertical clearance inside the drawer opening is limited. For drawers carrying heavier loads — dense shop storage or loaded file drawers — step up to a higher-rated series. This is an indoor-only slide; zinc plating is not rated for wet, exterior, or high-humidity environments.
It is a true damped soft-close — an integrated damper slows the drawer to a quiet, controlled finish over the last portion of closing travel. It is not a spring ramp that pulls the drawer shut; the drawer closes gently under its own momentum.
The 4450 series is built to a reduced height compared to standard-height side-mount ball bearing slides. That smaller profile leaves more usable space inside the drawer opening, which matters in shallow or narrow drawers and in face-frame openings with limited vertical clearance.
No. The 4450 is non-handed — both slides are identical, and either one installs on the left or right side of the drawer. Order by the number of drawers, not by side.
Side-mount slides need support at the rear in face-frame cabinets, where the cabinet side is set back from the front frame. Rear mounting brackets are sold separately; confirm the bracket series that matches the 4450 before ordering.
The 4450 requires 1/2 inch of side clearance per side. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening to leave the correct gap for each slide.
The KV 4450 series delivers damped, full-extension drawer action in a low-profile zinc slide — the straightforward choice when the project calls for quiet closes in a tighter space, stocked in bulk for shops moving through multiple drawers at a time.
