The Knape and Vogt 4450 Series is a 12 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide with integrated soft-close damping, a zinc finish, and a low-profile body suited to shallow cabinetry and compact drawer boxes. Rated 65 lb per pair, it is sold in bulk packs for shops and installers working through volume.
The 12 inch length targets compact cabinetry: bathroom vanities, small kitchen drawer banks, laundry room base cabinets, and built-in desks with shallow drawer boxes. At full extension, the entire drawer clears the cabinet opening, which matters in a narrow vanity just as much as it does in a full-depth kitchen run. The soft-close feature is a practical addition in a bathroom or bedroom setting, where a slamming drawer at the wrong moment is a real nuisance. The 65 lb per pair rating keeps the slide honest for what it is — a compact slide for compact drawers, not a heavy-duty workhorse.
Cold-formed steel members carry a zinc finish, the standard indoor corrosion-resistant coating for side-mount ball bearing slides. Zinc is a functional finish: it protects the steel through years of service in a dry interior environment and blends into a white or light-colored cabinet interior without drawing attention. The low-profile height is the other material detail that matters here — it allows installation in drawer openings where a taller slide body would bind or require costly custom fitting. This slide is built for indoor, dry environments.
Cabinet shops running production installs on vanities or small base cabinets get the most out of the bulk-pack format — fewer trips to reorder and a consistent part across an entire project. Designers specifying hardware for a bathroom remodel or a built-in office unit will find the 12 inch length and soft-close motion a reliable combination for drawers that see daily use. The 1/2 inch side clearance per side is the standard for this segment, so existing casework built around that spec fits without modification. For face-frame cabinets, rear mounting brackets are required and sold separately — the slide does not self-support at the back in that construction.
The 4450B 12 is rated 65 lb per pair, which is suitable for small to medium kitchen drawers holding utensils, spices, or light pantry items. For a heavy drawer carrying pots, dense canned goods, or tools, step up to a 100 lb class slide in the appropriate length.
A standard 3/4-extension slide leaves the rear few inches of the drawer inside the cabinet at full open. Full extension carries the drawer member all the way to the cabinet face, so the back of the drawer box is reachable without digging.
No. The soft-close damper engages near the end of the closing stroke and slows the drawer to a quiet, controlled close. It does not pull the drawer shut from a partially open position — push the drawer to within the capture zone and the damper takes it from there.
No. The 4450 Series is non-handed, so both slides in a pair are the same part. Order one pair per drawer and install either slide on either side.
The slide requires 1/2 inch of side clearance per side, so build or size the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening.
A 12 inch full-extension soft-close slide in zinc keeps compact cabinetry working cleanly — every drawer opens all the way, closes quietly, and the bulk-pack format means the shop does not run short mid-project.
