This is a 14 inch full-extension, soft-close side-mount ball bearing drawer slide from Knape and Vogt's 4450 series, finished in zinc and rated 65 lb per pair. Its low-profile design keeps the slide compact in tighter cabinet interiors while delivering the damped close that residential cabinetry demands.
At 14 inches, this slide suits shallow drawer runs: spice drawers, bathroom vanity drawers, small utility cabinets, and base cabinet drawers with limited depth. The soft-close mechanism is damped — not a spring ramp — so the drawer decelerates and settles shut on its own once pushed within the capture zone. That distinction matters when specifying for a kitchen renovation or a bath remodel where slamming drawers are a complaint the client will remember. Full extension means the whole interior is visible and reachable at full open, which counts on a shallow drawer where every inch of depth is being used.
The slide body is cold-rolled steel with a zinc finish, the standard protective coating for side-mount ball bearing slides used indoors. Zinc is a functional finish — it protects the steel through years of service and blends into the cabinet interior beside the drawer box. The low-profile design reduces the slide's overall height compared to a standard-height ball bearing slide, which translates to more usable drawer box height inside the same cabinet opening. Ball bearings run in full-length raceways between the slide members, giving smooth, consistent travel whether the drawer is empty or loaded to its 65 lb rated capacity.
The 4450 series is a practical choice for production cabinet shops running residential kitchen and bath work where soft-close is standard on every drawer. The bulk pack keeps unit cost manageable across a multi-cabinet job. Renovators replacing worn slides in an existing shallow cabinet will find the 14 inch length and 1/2 inch per-side clearance match the dimensions most common in that depth class. For face-frame cabinet installations, rear mounting support is required at the back of the slide — KV rear brackets for this series are sold separately, so account for them when quoting a face-frame project.
True soft-close — an integrated damper slows the drawer to a controlled, silent close. It is not an undamped spring ramp, which can still let the drawer close abruptly.
These are two separate facts. The slide is 14 inches in its closed length. Because it is full extension, the drawer travels approximately the full slide length — the entire drawer clears the cabinet face at full open.
No. The 4450B 14 is non-handed, so both slides in the pair are identical. Order by drawer count, not by side.
1/2 inch per side. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening to leave the correct clearance for each slide.
Yes, but side-mount slides in face-frame cabinets need rear support at the back of the slide. KV rear mounting brackets for this series are sold separately — plan for them when specifying a face-frame installation.
The Knape and Vogt 4450 series in 14 inches delivers damped, quiet closing and full drawer access in a compact, zinc-finished package that suits shallow residential drawers and keeps production moving on multi-cabinet jobs.
