The Knape and Vogt 4450 Series is an 18 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide with integrated soft-close damping, finished in zinc and built to a low-profile height that tucks cleanly into standard cabinet openings. Rated 65 lb per pair and sold in a bulk pack, it suits cabinet shops and contractors running production work.
An 18 inch slide length suits drawer boxes built for standard base and wall cabinet depths. Full extension brings the whole drawer clear of the face frame or cabinet opening, so pots, tools, or bathroom supplies in the back are reachable without reaching around. The soft-close damper does its work on every close: it is not a ramp or a spring but a genuine damper that slows the drawer through the last portion of travel regardless of how hard it was pushed. That consistent, quiet close is what most homeowners ask for by name when specifying a kitchen or bath remodel, and it is what designers call out on hardware schedules. Installing the same slide across an entire cabinet run keeps the motion feel uniform from drawer to drawer.
Steel members carry the load and keep the slide geometry stable over years of cycling. The zinc finish is electroplated over the steel for indoor corrosion resistance — it is the standard protective finish for side-mount ball bearing slides, practical and unobtrusive in the cabinet interior where the slide is mostly out of sight. The low-profile body is the detail that earns the 4450 its place in production work: it fits without shimming or special clearance in the openings where a taller slide would need adjustment.
Cabinet shops running residential kitchen, bath, and bedroom work in volume will find the bulk pack format and consistent zinc finish useful across a full job. Designers specifying hardware can call out the 4450 series with confidence that the soft-close feature and 65 lb rating cover standard residential drawer loads. Contractors retrofitting drawer slides in existing casework get a non-handed slide that drops into a standard 1/2 inch per-side clearance without handed-pair management. For drawers carrying genuinely heavy loads above the 65 lb class, step up to the KV 8500 series — but for the everyday kitchen or bath drawer, the 4450 is sized correctly.
Yes — the 4450 series uses the standard 1/2 inch side clearance per side. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening and the slide fits without adjustment.
No. The integrated damper catches the drawer regardless of closing speed and slows it through the final portion of travel. A firm push closes just as quietly as a light one.
The bulk-pack format is intended for trade and shop ordering. Confirm the pack quantity and included hardware at the time of ordering — quantity and contents are shown in the structured spec block on this page.
Side-mount slides need rear support in face-frame construction. KV rear mounting brackets for this series are sold separately — they are series-specific and not interchangeable with brackets from other lines.
The zinc finish is suited to dry indoor environments. For damp, wet, or high-humidity locations, a stainless steel or epoxy-coated slide is the better choice.
The KV 4450 Series in zinc delivers a uniform soft-close finish to every drawer in a cabinet run — the kind of reliable, repeatable result that keeps a residential install looking and feeling intentional from the first drawer to the last.
