This is a standard-motion slide: no soft-close, no self-close, and no detent — the drawer rides the bearings and stays wherever it is left.
A standard 100 lb cabinet slide is the right tool for a kitchen drawer. A 500 lb class slide exists for a different problem: heavy machine tooling stored in a shop cabinet, dense archive drawers in an institutional setting, server and equipment trays, or commercial kitchen pull-outs loaded with cast iron. At 24 inches, this slide fits the deeper drawers common in these applications and brings the full contents out to the cabinet face. Because the motion is standard, there is no mechanism to interfere with heavy, sudden loading or manual positioning — the drawer stops where you put it.
The 8900 Series is cold-formed steel with a zinc electroplate finish. Zinc is the workhorse finish in the side-mount ball bearing segment: it resists the everyday corrosion of a dry indoor environment and keeps the steel members serviceable through years of heavy cycling. It is not a decorative finish and it is not rated for wet, outdoor, or washdown environments — for those applications, look to a stainless steel slide. With 3/4 inch required per side, the drawer box must be built 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening total. That is wider than the 1 inch reduction standard 1/2 inch clearance slides call for, so if you are replacing a lighter-duty slide in an existing box, measure before ordering.
Slide length and drawer travel are two separate specs. A 24 inch full-extension slide carries the drawer member approximately its full slide length, bringing the entire drawer out to the cabinet face — but slide length is the closed measurement, not the travel distance. For a 24 inch slide, full extension brings the whole drawer clear of the opening.
This specific model is standard motion — no closing mechanism of any kind. The drawer stays wherever it is left. If damped or spring-assisted closing matters for your application, look at the soft-close and self-close variants in the KV line.
