This is a 1/4 inch rectangular nylon spacer from Bainbridge Manufacturing, built to offset a drawer slide from the cabinet wall and bring the slide into proper alignment with the drawer front or face frame. The white finish makes it a natural match for white-interior cabinetry and melamine casework where a darker bracket would show through the gap.
Face-frame cabinets and certain frameless boxes present a gap between the cabinet side and the correct slide position — a gap that cannot always be closed by adjusting the slide itself. A 1/4 inch offset is one of the most common corrections in production cabinet work: it compensates for a face-frame overhang, brings a slide flush with an inset panel edge, or corrects the side-to-side position of a slide in a retrofit where the original mounting surface is not quite where the new slide expects it. Slide the spacer behind the cabinet member before driving the mounting screws, and the slide sits exactly where the drawer needs it.
Nylon (polyamide) is the right material for a cabinet spacer because it holds its shape under the lateral stress a loaded drawer puts on its slide. Unlike a wood shim or a folded cardboard correction, a nylon spacer stays at exactly 1/4 inch through years of cycling. The white color is not paint over a darker substrate — the nylon itself is white, so a scuffed edge or a trimmed corner will not expose a contrasting core. In white or light-gray melamine interiors, the spacer is effectively invisible once the slide is mounted over it.
Cabinet shops building white-interior face-frame lines will find these spacers useful at the point in the assembly process where slide position is set before the drawer box goes in. Installers retrofitting slides in existing cabinets — particularly kitchens with white melamine boxes — reach for a 1/4 inch spacer when the replacement slide's mounting hole pattern does not land in the right spot without correction. The screw-on design means no glue, no adhesive tape, and no question about whether the bracket is solidly anchored.
The spacer sits between the cabinet wall and the slide's cabinet member, so it is compatible with any screw-on side-mount slide that allows for the additional 1/4 inch of standoff. Check that your total side clearance — including the spacer — still matches the slide manufacturer's required clearance for the drawer box width you are using.
Physically you can layer spacers, but the screw length must be long enough to pass through both spacers and still seat solidly in the cabinet panel. Use a screw long enough to achieve the required thread engagement in the substrate, and verify the combined offset still leaves adequate side clearance for the drawer box.
The nylon itself is white — there is no paint or coating over a darker base. A trimmed or scuffed edge will not reveal a contrasting color underneath.
The spacer mounts with standard wood screws through its pre-formed holes. Select a screw diameter that fits the mounting holes and a length that passes through the 1/4 inch spacer and seats firmly in the cabinet side panel — at least 5/8 inch of thread engagement in solid substrate is a reliable starting point for most cabinet panels.
