The Hettich KA 5632 is a 10 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide, rated 90 lb per pair, built for compact drawers where a longer slide simply will not fit. Steel construction with a zinc finish and standard ball bearing travel makes it a dependable workhorse for small cabinet applications.
Most kitchen and shop drawer slides run 18 to 22 inches. The 10 inch KA 5632 serves the applications where that length is impossible: shallow base cabinet drawers, built-in desk pedestals, nightstand and dresser drawers, small utility cases, and any installation where the interior cabinet depth falls in the 10 to 12 inch range. Full extension at this length means the back of a compact drawer still comes all the way out, which matters most when the drawer is holding small parts, hardware, or office supplies that tend to migrate to the rear. Standard motion means there is no closing mechanism — the drawer rides the bearings and stays where it is left, which suits applications where a push-to-open or detent-style mechanism would add unnecessary complexity.
The KA 5632 is cold-formed steel throughout, with a zinc finish applied for indoor corrosion resistance. Zinc is the working standard across side-mount ball bearing slides; it is a functional finish, not a decorative one, and the slide sits beside the drawer box rather than in plain view. The zinc plating is suited to dry indoor environments. It is not a stainless or powder-coated finish and is not intended for wet or exterior applications.
Cabinet shops and furniture makers building shallow-drawer furniture — nightstands, pedestal desks, bathroom vanities, or media consoles — will find the 10 inch format fills a gap that standard-length slides cannot. Contractors retrofitting a small under-counter drawer or replacing a worn slide in a compact cabinet also reach for this length. The 90 lb per pair rating handles a drawer loaded with small tools, files, or supplies without stepping up to a heavier-duty class. In face-frame cabinets, plan for rear mounting bracket support at the back of the slide; those brackets are sold separately and are series-specific.
No. The 10 inch measurement is the closed length of the slide. Because this is a full-extension model, the drawer member travels approximately the full slide length, bringing the whole drawer out to the cabinet face — but slide length and drawer travel are two separate specs.
Neither. The KA 5632 is a standard-motion slide — no damper, no closing spring, and no detent. The drawer stays wherever it is left. If you need a closing feature at this length, look for a soft-close or self-close variant in the KA 5632 family.
The slide requires 1/2 inch of side clearance per side. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening to leave the correct clearance for both slides.
No. The KA 5632 is non-handed — both slides in a set are identical and either one fits either side of the drawer.
Yes, but face-frame construction requires rear support at the back of the slide. Add the appropriate rear mounting brackets for the KA 5632 series, sold separately, to provide that support. Without them, the rear of the slide will lack a bearing surface.
The Hettich KA 5632 in 10 inches brings full extension and a 90 lb per pair rating to the drawer applications where depth is the first constraint — making it the right call when a standard-length slide simply will not fit the job.
