The Hettich KA 5632 is a 14 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide, rated 90 lb per pair, built for compact cabinet drawers where smooth travel and complete drawer access matter. Standard-motion design means no closing mechanism to interfere with your hardware choices or workflow.
Short drawers come up more often than many builders expect: bathroom vanities, nightstands, small islands, wall cabinets with pullout trays, and spice drawers in a kitchen base run. A 14 inch slide fits cabinets with a shallow interior depth where a longer slide would physically not clear. Full extension on a compact drawer is not a luxury — when the cabinet is only 14 to 16 inches deep, full extension is the only way to see what is in the back. The KA 5632 makes that access reliable without any added mechanism to maintain.
Standard motion also opens a specific door: pairing this slide with a separate push-to-open accessory or a soft-close add-on of your choice. Because the slide itself carries no closing feature, you are free to specify the motion hardware that suits the project rather than accepting a bundled option.
The slide's steel members are zinc-plated for indoor corrosion resistance — the standard finish across the side-mount ball bearing segment and a practical one for cabinet interiors that are occasionally wiped down. Zinc is a working finish on a slide that sits beside the drawer box; it is not a decorative surface. Ball bearings run in formed steel raceways across the full length of the slide, delivering smooth, even travel whether the drawer is empty or loaded to its rated capacity. This is an indoor slide; it is not rated for humid, washdown, or exterior environments.
The KA 5632 suits any builder who needs a compact, no-frills full-extension slide: a cabinetmaker running small vanity or nightstand drawers, a shop fitting out storage in a tight bench cabinet, or a contractor replacing worn slides in a shallow wall cabinet. At 14 inches and 90 lb, it is sized for light-duty residential drawers rather than file or utility storage. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening to achieve the required 1/2 inch side clearance on each side. In face-frame cabinets, rear mounting brackets are required to support the back end of the slide; those brackets are series-specific and sold separately.
Fourteen inches is the closed length of the slide. Because this is a full-extension design, the drawer travels approximately the full slide length, bringing the entire drawer out to the cabinet face. Slide length and drawer travel are separate specs — they are equal here only because the slide is full extension.
Standard motion means the slide has no self-close spring, no soft-close damper, and no hold-in detent. The drawer stays open or closed wherever you push it. If you want the drawer to close on its own or settle shut quietly, that feature needs to come from a separate add-on or a different slide model.
No. The KA 5632 is non-handed — both slides in a pair are identical and fit either side of the drawer without modification.
Yes, but face-frame installation requires rear mounting brackets to support the back end of the slide. The brackets are series-specific and sold separately — do not assume generic brackets will fit this series.
The source data does not state a maximum drawer width for the KA 5632. As a standard-class side-mount ball bearing slide, it is best suited to drawer widths typical of compact residential cabinetry. For wide drawers or heavy loads, step up to a rated heavy-duty model.
When the cabinet is shallow and the drawer just needs to open cleanly and stay put, the Hettich KA 5632 delivers exactly that — full extension, honest load capacity, and no unnecessary mechanism to complicate the install or the spec.
