Zinc-Finished Soft-Close Ball Bearing Slide for High-Volume Cabinet Work

The Knape and Vogt 8455 series is a 20 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide with integrated soft-close, rated 90 lb per pair and finished in zinc. Sold in bulk packaging, it is sized for cabinet shops and contractors running through drawers in quantity and needing a consistent, damped close on every one.

Key Features

• Integrated soft-close damper catches the drawer near the end of travel and settles it shut silently, without slamming.
• Full extension brings the entire drawer out to the cabinet face so the back of the box is fully reachable.
• 90 lb weight rating per pair covers a loaded kitchen or utility drawer without issue.
• Zinc finish on cold-rolled steel provides standard indoor corrosion resistance in a low-profile, functional look.
• Non-handed design means both slides in the pair are identical — no left/right sorting at the bench.
• Bulk-Pack format keeps the supply cabinet stocked without extra packaging overhead on high-run projects.

Where This Slide Fits the Job

The 8455 series earns its place on any drawer that needs to close quietly but does not need the premium finish of a painted or decorative slide. Kitchen base cabinets, utility drawers, closet built-ins, and shop casework are all natural fits. Because the zinc finish blends into a standard cabinet interior and the slide sits beside the drawer box rather than below it, it stays mostly out of sight during normal use. Full extension means every cubic inch of the drawer is accessible at full open, which matters in deep base cabinets and in any drawer storing items that migrate to the back.

Material and Finish

Steel members carry a zinc electroplate finish — the workhorse surface treatment for side-mount ball bearing slides in interior cabinetry. Zinc protects the steel through years of daily cycling in a dry indoor environment. It is not a decorative finish and is not rated for wet, exterior, or high-humidity installations. The finish reads as a clean, neutral metallic, appropriate wherever the slide itself is not the visual focus of the installation.

Specifying This Slide for Your Project

This slide suits residential and light commercial cabinet work where damped closing is required and visual hardware is kept to a minimum. Cabinet shops running production kitchens, designers specifying frameless or face-frame base cabinets with inset or overlay fronts, and contractors installing utility casework all reach for this format. The 1/2 inch side clearance per side is standard for this product class — build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening. In face-frame cabinets, the slide needs rear support at the back of the cabinet; use the series-matched rear mounting brackets, sold separately. The bulk-pack format suits shops ordering across multiple drawer runs rather than single-drawer retail packs.
