Zinc-Finish Side-Mount Slides Built for Workhorse Drawers

The Knape and Vogt 8600 Series 22 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide is a 150 lb class slide designed for shop drawers, utility cabinets, and production cabinetry where a clean zinc finish and honest heavy-duty capacity are the two specs that matter most.

Key Features

• 150 lb load rating per pair — built for drawers that would push a standard 100 lb cabinet slide to its limit.
• Full extension — the drawer travels its full length out to the cabinet face, putting every inch of the drawer interior within reach.
• Zinc finish on steel — a hard-wearing, corrosion-resistant surface suited to the demands of indoor shop and utility environments.
• Non-handed design — both slides in the pair are identical, so there is no left-right sorting before installation.
• Standard motion — no closing mechanism; the drawer rides the ball bearings and stays exactly where it is left.
• Bulk-Pack format — priced and packaged for shops ordering by the drawer bank, not the single pair.

Where a 150 lb Zinc Slide Earns Its Place

Shop drawers, tool storage units, and utility cabinets put demands on slides that standard 100 lb cabinet hardware was never sized for. A drawer stocked with hand tools, hardware bins, or supply inventory loads up fast. The 8600 series handles that weight at full extension without the slide flexing under the load. The zinc finish is also at home in a shop setting: it holds up to the light contact and moisture of a working environment better than an epoxy powder coat, and it does not call attention to itself against painted or steel cabinet interiors. For production cabinet shops building utility and shop furniture in volume, the Bulk-Pack format keeps the supply chain simple.

Steel Construction with a Zinc Surface

The 8600 series is built from steel with a zinc-plated finish. Zinc electroplating over cold-formed steel is the standard corrosion protection for side-mount ball bearing slides used indoors, and it is the finish that survives the incidental contact and occasional moisture that a shop or utility cabinet sees over years of service. This is not a decorative finish: it is a functional one, mostly hidden beside the open drawer, doing its job without maintenance. The zinc surface also provides a stable base if the cabinet is repainted or if the slide is later hidden behind a finished panel.

Right for Shops, Utility Runs, and High-Load Cabinet Work

The 8600 series is the right slide when the load class is the deciding factor and concealed hardware is not required. Cabinet shops building shop furniture, utility towers, and storage banks will find the 150 lb rating and Bulk-Pack pricing a practical fit. Contractors and installers specifying heavy storage in garages, workrooms, and commercial spaces can run these slides on the standard 32mm hole pattern without rear bracket adapters in frameless construction. For face-frame cabinet builds, rear mounting brackets are needed to support the back of the slide — these are sold separately and are series-specific. The 1/2 inch side clearance per side is the standard for this segment; build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening.
