This is a 24 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide from Knape and Vogt's 8600 series, rated 150 lb per pair in a zinc finish — a heavy-duty cabinet slide built for drawers that carry real weight.
The 8600 series sits above the standard 100 lb cabinet class, making it the right call when the drawer carries tools, hardware, heavy pantry stock, or anything else that would stress a lighter slide. At full extension, the drawer clears the cabinet opening completely — the back corner of a deep shop drawer or base cabinet is just as reachable as the front. Standard motion means no self-close spring and no damper: the drawer rides the bearings and stays wherever it is left, which suits drawers where the user's hands will be busy once it is open.
Electroplated zinc over cold-rolled steel is the workhorse finish in this segment: it handles the humidity and temperature swings of a garage shop, protects against surface rust in an indoor environment, and blends into a painted or natural wood cabinet interior without drawing attention. Zinc is a functional finish — these slides sit beside the drawer box and are mostly out of sight when the drawer is closed. The 8600 series is built on steel throughout, with ball bearings in full-length raceways between the members.
This slide earns its place in any build where the load exceeds what a standard-class slide is rated for. Shop cabinets with hand tools or power tool accessories, base cabinets storing cast iron cookware, commercial casework with heavy supplies, and garage storage units all put the 150 lb rating to work. The 24 inch length suits deep base cabinets and workbench drawers. Install it in a frameless cabinet by screwing directly to the side panel; in a face-frame cabinet, add matching rear mounting brackets (sold separately, series-specific) to support the back end of the slide. Each slide requires 1/2 inch of side clearance, so build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening.
No. 24 inches is the closed length of the slide. Because this is a full-extension slide, the drawer travels approximately the full slide length — the whole drawer clears the cabinet face — but slide length and travel are two separate specs.
Yes, in practice. This is a standard-motion slide with no self-close spring and no detent, so the drawer stays wherever it is pushed. It will not pull itself shut, and it will not hold itself open with a positive detent — it simply rides the bearings.
No. The 8600 series is non-handed, so both slides in the pair are identical. Order the quantity your drawer count requires — one pair per drawer.
It will, but face-frame construction requires rear support for the back of the slide. Add the compatible rear mounting brackets — sold separately and specific to the 8600 series — before install. The slide itself mounts the same way in either frameless or face-frame construction.
Bulk-Pack means the slides are shipped loose in a carton rather than individually bagged or retail-boxed. It is the format most cabinet shops and contractors prefer when ordering in volume. Confirm the sold-as unit — pair or each — when placing your order.
When the load is real and the drawer needs to open fully, the Knape and Vogt 8600 series gives you a 150 lb rated, full-extension slide in a zinc finish that holds up in the environments where that kind of weight actually gets put in drawers.
