This is the left-hand cabinet member from Knape and Vogt's 8505 series: a 14 inch, 150 lb class, over-travel ball bearing slide component for file and heavy storage drawers. It mounts to the left side of the cabinet interior and is sold as a single member, not a complete pair.
Most full-extension slides stop at the cabinet face — which is fine until the drawer sits beneath a countertop overhang or behind a deep face frame. The 8505's 1 inch of over-travel pushes the drawer past that point, making the rearmost files visible and reachable without pulling the drawer all the way out onto the floor. It is the right choice for office credenzas, under-counter file pedestals, and any lateral file drawer where the opening depth eats into usable travel.
The cabinet member is formed steel with a zinc finish — the standard for side-mount ball bearing slides in commercial and office environments. Mounting holes fall on the industry 32mm system grid, which lines up with line-bored panels in production frameless cabinets. In face-frame cabinets, the rear end of the slide needs support: add the appropriate KV rear mounting brackets, sold separately, to carry the back of the slide where the panel is set back from the face frame. Side clearance is 1/2 inch per side, so the drawer box is built 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening.
This member is for the shop or installer who is building out file pedestals, credenzas, or lateral file cabinets and needs the left-hand cabinet member on its own — whether restocking a component kit, replacing a single member, or sourcing for a production run. The Q-Pack format bundles multiple members in a single box, making it practical for shops running several identical units at once. Pair it with the right-hand cabinet member and the matching drawer members for a complete 8505 series installation.
A complete installation requires one left-hand cabinet member, one right-hand cabinet member, and two drawer members (one per side). Order the right-hand cabinet member and the drawer members separately to build a working pair.
The 150 lb load class is the rating for a complete pair of slides. A single member is one half of that system.
The hold-in anti-rebound detent is a mechanical catch that holds the drawer closed and stops it from bouncing back open — there is no damper and no spring assist. Soft-close uses a damper to slow the drawer over the last inch of travel. This slide has the detent only, not soft-close.
Yes, with the appropriate rear mounting brackets. Face-frame construction sets the cabinet side back from the face, so the back end of the slide needs bracket support. KV rear mounting brackets for the 8505 series are sold separately and are series-specific.
The slide is 14 inches in closed length. With over-travel, the drawer member extends 1 inch beyond full extension, so the drawer travels past the slide's nominal length. Slide length and drawer travel are two separate measurements.
When the job calls for a file drawer that clears an overhang and stays shut between uses, the 8505 left-hand cabinet member is the piece that starts the build — order the matching members alongside it and the installation goes together without substitutions.
