This is the right-hand cabinet member from Knape and Vogt's 8505 series, a 22 inch over-travel ball bearing file drawer slide component rated in the 150 lb class. It is the piece that mounts to the interior cabinet wall on the right side of the drawer opening, and it belongs in file, lateral, and heavy storage drawers where a standard 100 lb cabinet slide would be undersized.
A standard full-extension slide brings the drawer out to the cabinet face and stops. That is enough for most kitchen drawers, but not for a lateral file drawer sitting under a worktop overhang or behind a deep face frame. The 8505 series travels 1 inch beyond full extension, which is exactly the clearance needed to get the back row of hanging folders out without tilting the drawer or digging by feel. In a deep face-frame office cabinet, that extra inch is the difference between a drawer that works and one that frustrates.
The cabinet member is cold-formed steel with a zinc plated finish. Zinc is the workhorse finish in this product class: it protects the steel through years of indoor service and stays low-profile beside the drawer box in daily use. This is not a stainless or exterior-rated finish; the 8505 series is for dry, indoor installations.
The 8505 series sells its cabinet and drawer members as individual components, which gives production shops the flexibility to order the quantities they actually need. This SKU is the right-hand cabinet member only. To equip one file drawer, you need one right-hand cabinet member, one left-hand cabinet member, and both drawer members. The Q-Pack format boxes these components for shop use rather than retail display. Confirm the left-hand cabinet member and the two drawer members are in your order before the job goes to install. In face-frame cabinets, add the matching KV rear mounting brackets, sold separately, to support the back end of the slide.
To make one working drawer installation you need the matching left-hand cabinet member plus both the right-hand and left-hand drawer members. All four components are sold separately in the 8505 series.
A full-extension slide stops with the drawer at the cabinet face. This 8505 series slide travels 1 inch past that point, so the drawer clears an overhang or deep face frame and the back of the drawer is fully accessible.
No. The hold-in anti-rebound detent keeps the drawer closed once it is pushed shut and stops it from rebounding open. It does not pull the drawer closed. There is no spring assist and no soft-close damper on this slide.
The 8505 series requires 1/2 inch of side clearance per side. Build the drawer box 1 inch narrower than the cabinet opening to give each slide its clearance.
The 8505 series is recommended for drawer widths up to 30 inches. For wider lateral files, the 8500 series full-extension model supports drawers up to 36 inches wide.
When the job calls for a 150 lb class over-travel slide and the cabinet is on the right side of the opening, this is the component to pull — order the matching members alongside it and the drawer will travel past the overhang and stay shut between uses.
