This is the right-hand cabinet member from Knape and Vogt's 8505 series, an 18 inch over-travel ball bearing file drawer slide component rated in the 150 lb class. It is sold as a single right-hand cabinet member, Q-Pack packaged for shop use, and is the cabinet-side rail that mounts to the interior of the cabinet — not a complete working pair.
Standard full-extension slides stop at the cabinet face. In a lateral file or worktop installation, that leaves the rear hanging folders partly blocked by a counter overhang or a thick face frame. The 8505 series pushes the drawer member one inch past its nominal length so the drawer clears the obstruction completely. The effect is most noticeable in office furniture built under a worksurface, in kitchen drawers positioned behind a deep apron, and in any cabinet where the opening is set back from the usable depth. The hold-in anti-rebound detent complements this — a file drawer under load will rebound when pushed hard, and the detent stops that without adding a spring mechanism or damper.
The cabinet member is cold-formed steel with a zinc finish, the working standard for ball bearing side-mount slides intended for indoor commercial and office use. Zinc plating provides corrosion resistance appropriate for interior environments. This is a functional slide designed to sit beside the drawer box and do its job without attention; it is not a decorative finish and is largely out of sight during normal use.
The 8505 series is the right choice when the drawer load exceeds the standard cabinet class and the installation geometry demands over-travel. KV recommends a maximum drawer width of 30 inches for the 8505 series at this load class. This SKU is one component of a complete set: you need one right-hand cabinet member (this part), one left-hand cabinet member, and both drawer members to make a working pair for one drawer. In a face-frame cabinet, add the matching KV rear mounting brackets, sold separately; the slide mounts on the 32mm hole pattern and requires 1/2 inch of side clearance per side.
The Q-Pack contains the right-hand cabinet member only. This is the rail that fastens to the cabinet interior. To install one drawer you also need the left-hand cabinet member and both drawer members, which are sold separately.
The drawer member travels the full 18 inch nominal length plus 1 inch of over-travel, pushing the drawer past the cabinet face. The 18 inch figure is the closed slide length, not the travel distance.
No. The hold-in anti-rebound detent is a mechanical catch that keeps the drawer from bouncing back open after you close it. There is no damper and no spring assist — the drawer does not close on its own and does not slow down near the end of travel.
Yes. In a face-frame installation the cabinet side is set back from the frame, so the rear end of the slide needs support. Use the matching KV rear mounting brackets for the 8500 series, sold separately — brackets from other KV series are not interchangeable.
