Fulterer FR5400SL 4-Pair Box 34" Hold-In/Hold-Out Side Mount Full Extension 550 lb Ball Bearing Drawer Slide, Zinc, 5373

Zinc-Finished Steel Built to Handle 550 lb of Real Working Load

This is a 34 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide from Fulterer's heavy-duty line, rated 550 lb per pair, with independent hold-in and hold-out detents that keep the drawer locked in the closed position or held open at full extension until intentionally moved.

Key Features

• 550 lb weight capacity per pair — well above the standard cabinet class, built for serious shop, industrial, and storage applications.
• Hold-in and hold-out detents — a mechanical catch keeps the drawer fully closed until pulled, and a second detent holds it fully open until pushed; no damper, no spring, just positive positioning.
• Full extension — the entire drawer travels clear of the cabinet opening, giving complete access to the back of the box.
• 3/4 inch side clearance per side — wider than the standard 1/2 inch, so the drawer box must be sized accordingly when building or retrofitting.
• Non-handed steel construction with zinc finish — identical slides fit left and right, and the zinc plating delivers indoor corrosion resistance on cold-formed steel members.

Where These Slides Earn Their Keep

A 550 lb rating moves this slide into a different class than the kitchen or office drawer. These are the right choice for heavy tool drawers in a cabinet shop, machine room utility drawers, work-surface pull-outs that need to stay open hands-free, and any storage application where the drawer is loaded with metal parts, hardware, or dense materials. The hold-out detent is what separates this from a plain full-extension heavy-duty slide: push the drawer to full open and it locks there while both hands are busy at the bench, then releases with a deliberate push. The hold-in detent on the close side stops a heavy, loaded drawer from drifting or bouncing back open after it is shut. Both detents are mechanical — no power, no springs to fatigue, no damping mechanism that wears differently from the slide itself.

Materials and Finish

The slide members are cold-formed steel with a zinc finish. Zinc is the workhorse finish in this segment: electroplated over steel, it handles the corrosion demands of an indoor shop or storage environment through years of daily use. The zinc coating on a heavy-duty slide like this is a functional, not decorative, choice — the slide sits inside the cabinet beside the drawer box and is mostly out of sight. This finish is not rated for outdoor, wet, or high-humidity environments; use a stainless or coated variant where those conditions apply.

Who Should Order This Slide

Cabinet shops, millwork facilities, and serious garage or shop builders are the natural fit for this SKU. It is also a strong choice for facilities managers specifying replacement slides on heavy industrial storage cabinets, and for contractors building custom work surfaces or benchtop pull-outs where a 34 inch depth and a 550 lb rating are both required. Because the slide is non-handed, ordering is straightforward: one part number covers both sides of any drawer. Account for the 3/4 inch side clearance per side when sizing the drawer box — the box will need to be built 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening, not the 1 inch that applies to standard 1/2 inch clearance slides. In face-frame cabinets, rear mounting support is required; confirm the appropriate rear bracket for this series before ordering.

The Right Slide for Work That Does Not Stop

A 550 lb rated, full-extension slide with a hold-in and hold-out detent in a zinc-finished, non-handed format is a direct answer to the shop drawer that needs to stay where it is put — whether that is closed under a load of hardware or open while both hands are working inside it.
