Fulterer 2-Pair Box 54" Hold-In/Hold-Out Side Mount Full Extension 550 lb Ball Bearing Drawer Slide, Zinc, 5383

Zinc-Finished Ball Bearing Drawer Slides Built for Heavy Industrial Loads

The Fulterer 54 inch full-extension side-mount ball bearing drawer slide is built for the demanding end of the load spectrum, rated at 550 lb per pair with a hold-in/hold-out detent system that keeps the drawer exactly where you leave it. Zinc-finished steel construction delivers the corrosion resistance expected in shop, industrial, and commercial installations where this slide earns its keep every day.

Key Features

• 550 lb weight capacity per pair — handles genuinely heavy drawers well beyond the standard cabinet class.
• Full extension — the entire drawer clears the cabinet face, putting rear contents within reach.
• Hold-in and hold-out detents — the drawer stays closed when shut and stays open when extended, releasing with a normal push or pull.
• Zinc finish over steel — standard indoor corrosion protection on a heavy-gauge steel body sized for industrial service.
• Non-handed design — both slides in the pair are identical, so there is no left/right sorting on the bench.
• 3/4 inch side clearance per side — wider than the standard 1/2 inch cabinet class; size the drawer box accordingly.

Where the Hold-In/Hold-Out Combination Pays Off

A 550 lb drawer that drifts open on its own is a hazard; one that swings closed on a hand reaching to the back is worse. The hold-in detent locks the drawer in the closed position until intentionally pulled, and the hold-out detent holds it fully open until intentionally pushed closed. Neither position requires a lever or a key — a deliberate push or pull releases the detent — but the drawer will not move on its own from vibration, slope, or incidental contact. That combination suits server room cabinets, heavy-duty shop drawers, maintenance carts, and any mobile or industrial enclosure where a loaded drawer staying put is a safety and workflow requirement, not a nice-to-have.

Steel and Zinc Built for Long Indoor Service

The slide body is heavy-gauge steel with a zinc electroplate finish. Zinc is the working standard for industrial ball bearing slides: it protects the steel through daily use in dry to moderately humid indoor environments. At 54 inches and 550 lb class, these are not decorative slides tucked behind a door — they are structural components that carry real weight through real cycles. The zinc finish on a slide this size does its job without adding visual bulk, and it blends into the cabinet interior without requiring a color match.

Who Orders These Slides

The 54 inch length and 550 lb class place this slide outside the residential kitchen category entirely. Cabinet shops building heavy tool storage, fabricators fitting out work carts, integrators racking server and AV equipment, and commercial furniture builders specifying heavy pull-out platforms are the buyers who reach for this SKU. The non-handed design simplifies inventory — one part number covers both sides of every drawer. Note that at 3/4 inch clearance per side, the drawer box must be built 1-1/2 inches narrower than the cabinet opening, which is wider than the 1 inch offset used with standard 1/2 inch clearance slides. In face-frame cabinet installations, rear mounting support is required; confirm bracket compatibility with Fulterer's accessories for this series before building.

The Right Foundation for a 550 lb Drawer

At this load class and length, the slide under the drawer is not an afterthought — it is the reason the drawer works safely. The Fulterer 5383 brings full extension, dual-position detents, and zinc-finished heavy steel to installations where those specs are the baseline, not the upgrade.
